Help Please

I upgraded to Windows 7 from XP. When I did this, my Libronix developed two glitches. Perhaps someone can help.

Glitch 1: When I typed in a study passage, I had the Bible passage come up and it was linked to my favorite commentary. When I upgraded to Windows 7, the commentary no longer comes up. I can link them, but the link won't hold when I open the program next time. It used to but it won't now. Any ideas?

Glitch 2. When I type in the study passage now, , the passage guide pops up automatically and covers the study guide half of the window. It didn't do this when I used XP. How can I make the passage guide stay down until I summon it?

What version of Libronix are you running; you need 3.0g to be fully compatible with Windows 7/IE 8. Try running the upgrade link here:

Thanks, Kevin/ I am running that version but downloaded just in case. It makes no difference. I just don't know the mechanics of how to preserve the link between the Bible and the commentary the next time I use the program. I also don't know how to make the passage guide stay down. I don't know the commands to make those things happen like they used to when it ran under Windows XP

Once you've set up the link between Bible and commentary, you need to save your workspace (File > Save Workspace). You can reopen any saved workspace (File > Load Workspace), or you can set Libronix to automatically save the workspace when you close the program and reopen the last open workspace when you start Libronix up again (Tools > Options > General > General > Restore Desktop to Last Session).

Glitch 2. When I type in the study passage now, , the passage guide pops up automatically and covers the study guide half of the window. It didn't do this when I used XP. How can I make the passage guide stay down until I summon it?

What do you mean by the "study guide" half of the window?

Close all the sub-windows within the main Libronix workspace (click the X in the upper right of each tile, or if all the tiles are maximized -- filling up the entire workspace area within Libronix -- then you'll find the tiles' "X" just below the main "X" to close the Libronix application). Then open just your Home page (which will open on the left half of the workspace). Then does it work OK for you when you type in a passage reference in the Study Passage box? If I'm not understanding what's going on for you, then please clarify.

Well, in Libronix, screen real estate was never managed very well. (L4 has improved on that a lot with its tabbed user interface.) But when you've got the passage guide on top of the home page and you need to access the home page, you don't need to "x it down" to move it out of the way. You can simply click on the buttons at the bottom of the window to toggle back and forth between which one is on top:

The one that's on top will have the blue outline around it.

You can also drag the windows around by their title bar (the blue bar along the top) to reposition them on the screen out of your way. Or you can minimize them by clicking the icon with the small dash to the left of the maximize icon and the close icon (the x) in the upper right corner of the window:

If you don't want the passage guide to come up at all when you type a passage into the home page, then select one of the other radio buttons besides "passage guide" such as "Bible and Commentary Only" or "Bible Only":

Bill, my Passage Guide did this in XP, Vista, and now in Windows 7.

Do you have tabs at the bottom of the window that contains your Passage Guide? Here's a screen shot from my computer using Win 7:

If you have these you should be able to quickly switch back and forth between the panes that include you Home Page (the tab on the left above) and the Passage Guide (one on the right).

If you don't want that you can open a Passage Guide, drag it to the size you want and put it in the place you want and save that work space so that every time you want to run a Passage Guide you can start from the Passage guide and bypass the Home Page.

In the example below I have re-sized the Home Page and the Passage Guide and placed them one above the other:

Bill, another way to navigate through L3 windows/panes is holding down the "ctrl" key and tapping the "tab" key... actually this works in both versions, but is especially useful to find those hidden windows in L3.

The radio buttons are right there on your Home Page, below the box where you type in your Study Passage and click Go! They're not on the toolbar. I posted a picture showing them. Are you missing the "Bible and Commentary Only" option?

This would be a moot point if you were able to select the "Bible and Commentary Only" option. The passage guide wouldn't pop up at all. But as others mentioned above, you can size the passage guide to half size and then save the workspace. Then when you open that workspace again it will keep the passage guide at half size. You can type your study passage right into the passage guide instead of returning to the home page to start a study.

Are you missing the "Bible and Commentary Only" option?

If you select Customize View from the Home Page,

you will see an option under Passage Guide:

If you check 'Show Study Options' you get the radio buttons. If it is unchecked you do not get any radio buttons. So somewhere along the line you unchecked this box and do not see any radio buttons.

Glad to hear it. It's been a while since I've had to answer questions about Libronix since most customers are asking about Logos 4 these days. I think the Libronix format is easier to handle. So I will ask for help. I have watched the tutorials and still can't do it. One question: I see they are selling instruction manuals for Logos 4. Is it worth getting one? I can ponder over written material but the tutorials get passed me...I must have too many senior moments.

Bill, I don't have a manual but like you would prefer to have one open before me rather than try to watch a video and then go back and try to apply what I've learned from it. I believe Logos' official trainer Morris Proctor has a good manual.

There is a former Logos employee who prepared a video approach to learning that is different. It breaks the tutorials down into sections, gives an example, and then has you recreate what you just saw before you go on. It is done in the learning environment, not in your actual Logos setup, but might be a good 'in-between' approach. You'd have to do an Internet search for Logos 4 Video Training to find this one as we are not allowed to link to outside resources that might compete in some way with what Logos offers.

Well, senior moments might mean it will take some back-and-forth with us to get you through some of your questions, like this particular one did, but we're game.

I have both volume 1 and volume 2, and they are very well done. Morris Proctor is an excellent teacher. I might recommend his Camp Logos if he ever comes to your neck of the woods, but I think if you find the videos to overwhelming you'd feel like a MP Seminar was like trying to take a sip of water from a firehose. I think the manuals would be a better way for you to learn. And asking questions bit by bit. Or if you live in an area where there are other experienced Logos users, maybe someone would be willing to come by and give you some one-on-one tutoring, at your own pace.
