CBV Styles

I have found that the copy and paste function in Logos 4 is a nifty tool. I use it to send verses into my pages documents quite often. I like to use Times New Roman font in my documents and I like to put all my Scripture quotations in italics. I don't see Times New Roman with Italics as an option in the style drop down list. Is it? If not, are there any syntax commands that I can use under "create a new style" that will accomplish what I want or do I simply want too much? Thanks much.

Hi Blu

1. Open your Pages Document

2. Select some text

3. Copy and Paste it where you want your bit from Logos to appear

4. Adjust this text using the format bar till it is just the way you want your Logos text to look.

5. Make sure that he 'Styles' section is open

6 Highlight your new text - one of the default styles will be highlighted.

7 Do not click on the style name

8 Hover over the Red arrow until it responds and then click on it.

9 Select 'Create new style from Selection' and give your new style a name - it will then appear in the Styles list.

10 When you want to Paste what you have copied from logos.

a Place the cursor where you want your text to appear

b Click on the new style

c Hold Cmd() Alt, Shift and press 'V'

that should be what you want if I understood you properly.

Thanks Mike, I learned something about Pages. I was thinking more of a set of commands I could give Logos 4 that would keep me from having to make adjustments in Pages. I would like to be able to hit the 'copy and paste' button in CBV and have it show up in my document italicized and in Times New Roman automatically.

Sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick. I looked at the title of the post and being a bit thick didn't work out that CBV was an acronym for Copy Bible Verses.

However if you use the same template in pages for your work each time and already have your 'Logos Quote' style set up you are likely to find that - Highlight - C - +alt+shift +V - is much faster than the Copy Bible Verses route.

I agree, keyboard commands are much quicker than using the mouse for everything. I love the Mac for this reason.

I have followed your instructions but am still having problems. I like to use outlines and have made a template for my own outline that I follow as I type up both sermons and classes. Say I want to put a quote under I.,A.,1., a. I can follow your instructions and get my quote to that point. However, If I want to put a new quote under II.,B.,1., Pages will adjust my point and move it back to where I originally set up my "Logos Quote" in my styles drawer (The same position as I.A.1.a.). This is why I liked the copy and paste option in Logos. It sends the reference to where my cursor is in Pages and does not change my outline. Any suggestions as to what I can do?

I do not follow your explanation completely however perhaps in your case Paragraph Styles are not the tool you want to use?

Have you tried the same procedure as I suggested but using Character Styles? Again having set up your Character Style just the way you want - you can select and copy to clipboard the selection from Logos. Move the CURSOR to where you want your text. Move the POINTER to click on your Character Style (so setting the style for the pasted text) and then +alt+shift+v should enter you text as you want it.

Yes, Character Styles is getting me closer to what I want. Thanks. When it comes to me and computer savvy-ness, I have nowhere to go but up. Still, it's going to take some tinkering before I can get things the way I want. I appreciate your help. You've given me a good basis to work from.

You could, of course try tinkering with List Styles!
