Bad Install Disc - can I download from internte?

Purchased last night at a seminar and install disc would not read on
my machine. So I downloaded the installer from the net and completed it
that way.

Only problem is that nowhere in the process did it
ask for my install key and therefore it has no idea of what base version
I have and what books to download. Bottom line is that I have the
software with no books in my library - which isn't exactly useful Smile

I have looked in the software and online and cannot find how to address this issue. Any ideas?

Hi Jeff - and welcome to the forums.

When starting Logos did you get a sign-in screen (as below) and did you try and register as a new user?

I believe you should be able to enter your serial number as part of the registration process.

(You can force the signin screen to appear by holding the Ctrl key when clicking on your Logos icon)

What an unhappy way to start!
I need to ask a couple questions first. I want to make sure what we are talking about.
Is this for a base package or a "stand alone" title (like Anchor Bible Dictionary?)
Is this a Logos 4 install disc or a Libronix disc?
Are you installing to a Mac or PC?
Did you purchase this at a Camp Logos or some other type of seminar?

My answers will depend on your answers to these questions. If you are dealing with a Logos 4 installation, it is probably still indexing on your hard drive. That process takes a l-o-n-g time.

What package
did you intend to purchase? Logos 4 will automatically download all the
correct resources your license provides for. All you have to do is get
your license registered in the Logos server.

If you have not registered with Logos, you will not be able to install the books...did you get a product code # that you can go to the Logos website and register there? You have to go through the registration process and give them the information needed such as name, email adress, etc...hope this helps...if not you will have to call them Monday,

I have had my current Logos account since April 2008 and was not familiar with how the brand new website handles new accounts and registrations. So, I created a new account and just like Jeff says, There is nowhere to enter a product code for registration! Not only that, in my current account details I can no longer see my Libronix User ID. If Logos is going to be selling licenses at seminars, they really do need to address this issue and make the first time user experience as easy as possible.

(They might also do some quality control checking on install DVDs [:O] )

Jeff, are you sure the DVD isn't reading? Oh Boy, this is a bummer. If you have a local pastor or friend who has a Logos 4 disc you could use their media and your code. That is about all I can suggest before Monday. I know Customer Service will make things right.

Hey Jeff,

This may be something simple that we have overlooked...your computer does have a dvd player right? All the Logos disk of those type are dvd as far as I know because of the amount of information on them...so make sure your puter has a dvd player...

Really good call.

If your computer does have a DVD drive and it is still not reading the disc, try and read it on another computer's DVD player. You could be having a hardware/driver issue and it not be the disc after all.

And if the disc is indeed defective maybe somebody else who attended the seminar will have a good one. All you are needing is the chance to enter your product code. Once that is done Logos' servers will download all the latest files & resources. Did the seminar have a Logos Ambassador conducting it? S/He would be a good place to start looking for a media disk to borrow.

One last thought here; Do you know that after you install, activate and download all your resources it will take a long time to do the initial indexing? You probably won't be using it this weekend anyway. But if you don't start until Monday, it will be Wednesday before you get to. [6]

Good insight. Yes, I have a DVD player and it plays movies without a problem. Tried disc in another computer and it worked fine. Then I tweaked a few settings on the DVD player and it worked great.
