A number of people have asked me about downloading my unofficial tutorial videos. Whilst this has always been possible via Vimeo, it's not straight forward. So I've updated my website so you can download easily and simply from there. The downloads are high quality (full HD: 1280x720), and they work best with Quicktime. Because they're high quality, they're quite large - between 100 and 450Mb.
So far there are 13 videos to choose from, totalling 4 hours and 30 minutes of training.
Mark,
Wow...thank you very much...I know more than one Logos users who will appreciate this!
Ahh....when do you find time to preach????

What a silly question - you know as well as I do that a preacher only works on Sunday. I have had more than one parishioner remind me of this.[:D] If true, I would like to know when he finds time to prepare the sermon - Sunday night?
I would like to know when he finds time to prepare the sermon - Sunday night?
He's got this nifty sermon prep tool called Logos. Makes it almost automatic! [:)]
when do you find time to preach????
It's not so much my sermons are automated [;)], but that my website is (or at least the video parts of it are). I only needed about six more lines of code to make these changes.
I've updated my website so you can download easily and simply from there.
I appreciate the hard work you have done in making these videos available to the community.
A Note to Mac Users: The Mac OS does not like .exe files as they are Windows specific. In the Finder delete the .exe at the end of the file name. Then click use .mov in the resulting dialog box. The files will not open in Quick Time Player.
When i click on download it pulls down a .mov file. Does the Mac rename this file?
Apparently. When I download, I get "7-clippings.mov.exe". The Mac OS will not open the file with the .exe extension.
The OS gives me a dialog stating that this is a Windows file downloaded from the Internet, are you sure you want to open it? I clicked yes, and nothing happened. But removing the .exe extension fixed everything.

Hmm. This shouldn't happen (and doesn't on a PC, even in Safari). I've changed the MIME type on the server now. Would you mind, Jack, checking to see if there is still a problem?

Thanks, Mark. This couldn't come at a better time. I just "accidently" reformatted my small external driver as I was preparing to do a back-up and lost all video and mpg3 files that I had on it. And of course this just "happened" to be where I had stored yours, which I had just finished downloading!!!! So I had started yesterday with Vimeo, but only was able to download 4, when I was told that I could not download any more "today"! So, I am now happily downloading all of your videos again today but from your website! Thanks again for all of your hard work.

The .exe extension is no longer present. Thank you for the swift correction.
Thanks for making these available for download Mark. I have always found your videos very helpful. [:)]
I've been downloading these excellent videos since day one using a neat little Firefox plugin called 'Download Helper'. It seems to work on most if not all popular video sites.
Mark, thanks for continually making time to add to and enhance your L4 training/tutorial and bibliography offerings. 'Tis greatly appreciated!
Thank you, Mark. I've downloaded each of these. I had a question regarding #10 Notes. I write my sermons by creating a rough draft notes file. Then, I create another notes file with my final manuscript for Sunday. I'm doing that now as a matter of fact. When I write, sometimes I notice that Logos fails to recognize verse references and hyperlink them. Do I have to hyperlink them all manually or is there a feature (as in Libronix 3) that sweeps the note and recognizes all the verse references and hyperlinks them?
Thanks again!
That's a good way of downloading flash video files, and I'm very happy for people to use that method. The quality will not quite be as high as the .MOV files, though.
When I write, sometimes I notice that Logos fails to recognize verse references and hyperlink them.
Logos should recognise verses that follow an 'obvious' format - such as John 3:16, or Obad. 12 or Jonah 1:1-12, 15-17. It won't recognise verses where the book name isn't specified though. So a sentence like "In John 3:16, John says xxx, but in v12 he says yyy, and in 4:15-20 he says zzz" will only have the first reference recognised, and not the second or third. If you want these linked, you have to hyperlink them yourself. Just select the text you want to link (e.g. "4:15-20", and type the full link in the Hyperlink box (e.g. "John 4:15-20") and press enter.
If Logos isn't recognising 'obvious' formats, then something else is wrong.
Mark, thank you for your videos. David, thank you for the tip about downloadhelper. When I get into town, I shall hopefully be able to download some of them [:)]
Jim, I have the same problem and it isn't how I reference them. I do note that sometimes a comma is misunderstood in a string of references if the next reference after it is a book title with a number 1, 2, or 3 involved. But I have had problems with Logos not recognizing a single spelled out reference. My experience says there is some tuning work Logos needs to do on this. I had virtually no issues with this in Logos 3, except for the kinds of things Mark pointed out.
Thanks, Mark. I do think something else is wrong. Perhaps you may be able to help. Here are some notes I'm writing today as an example. I've underlined the references not hyperlinked. Those references in bold are hyperlinked. Notice that in each instance where a verse is wrapped with parenthesis, the hyperlink feature does not work. That seems odd to me.
• Moses prayed just before his death that the LORD would provide Israel with a leader. He prayed, "Let the LORD ...set a man over the congregation who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the LORD may not be like sheep which have no shepherd" (Numbers 27.12-17). Moses understood that Israel had need of a leader to replace him.• Micaiah lived in the godless day of King Ahab. He was a true prophet of the LORD, but Ahab did not want the truth. Micaiah was sent to warn Ahab of his impending doom in 1 Kings 2.17: "I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd." The LORD had shown Micaiah that Israel would lose her king and his leadership. See also 2 Chronicles 18.16. • When the Babylonian captivity occurred, Ezekiel 34.5 records that Israel was like sheep scattered because there was no shepherd. The failures of the kings of Judah had led them to this predicament. • Zechariah said that the people wend their way like sheep; they are in trouble because there is no shepherd (Zechariah 10.12). • Zechariah 13.7 records a prophecy fulfilled in the life of Christ. It states, "Strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered." Of course this is what occurred when the Lord Jesus was crucified. He was killed and the disciples scattered because of His absence. The fulfillment of this verse is found in Matthew 26.31: Jesus said to them, "All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered." See also Mark 14.27. • Our text has the statement to refer to the multitude's lack due to ineffective religious leadership in the day of Christ (Mark 6.34). • John 10 opens with another "I AM" saying of Jesus. He proclaims that He is the Good Shepherd who gives His life for the sheep. A hireling (religious leaders of His day) would not do so but rather, leaves the sheep and allows the wolves to devour them. Jesus is the Good Shepherd and will never abandon His sheep so that they become scattered. Jesus is the Great Shepherd of the sheep through the an everlasting coovenant established by the shedding of His blood (Hebrews 13.20). • Peter reminds disciples that they were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd of their souls (cf. 1 Peter 2.25). • Thus, in reference to this phrase in Mark 6.34, Jesus assumes the role of the Shepherd of sheep once helpless, hungry, aimless, and defenseless. He looks at them with compassion and sees them in their great need. Then, Jesus assumes the mantle of Leader and Savior - the Great and Good Shepherd!
Also note that the forum hyperlinked what Logos did not on my cpu.
If the verse reference is the very last thing in your note (not counting punctuation after it), then Logos will not recognize it. You have to hit Spacebar or Enter after a reference to get Logos to convert it to a link. If you just hit Tab to move the focus away from the note (or click somewhere else outside the note), then it remains unconverted. I think Logos should fix this.

I actually laughed out loud when I read that! Good one!
Thanks, Rosie. I think I understand. If I type: (Mark 1.15). - notice the period after the end parenthetical mark - no hyperlink. If I type, (Mark 1.15) space, backspace, period, it works. Got it. Not ideal - but it works.
Jim

It looks like you've spotted a bug. I've just added a bug report to the beta forum, so hopefully it might get fixed in the future. I did notice that if you paste the text in, the link is created, so a temporary work-around for now would be to select all the text, copy then paste (CTRL+A, CTRL+C, CTRL+V).
Dear Brother Mark!
Peace and Joy in the Lord!
May God truly bless you richly for all you have done for us here in the Logos Community!
We really appreciate all of that!
God Bless you richly - you and your loved ones! Now and forever!
That said -- if you are preaching tomorrow morning, shouldn't you ought to get to bed and get some ZZZZZZ's???? It's past midnight in your time zone!
*smile*
Thanks, Mark. I appreciate your help.
Others have responded and we have successfully hijacked Mark's good news thread . Let me just share one screenshot which illustrates issues I find.
The first line is pretty much as I must type to get the comma issue to not affect the next reference when a 1, 2, or 3 is in the reference title. In some cases this works better than it did in L3.
The second line shows no issues with parentheses as long as I DO NOT put a period at the end.
In the third line I went back and corrected the reference to 5-6 in 2 Cor 3: and finished the sentence and the reference only finds 2 Cor 3 not the verses in that chapter.
The fourth line shows another anomoly related to using punctuation at the end of a parenthesis. Here a period after Rom 12:3 causes the reference to be linked to Romans 12 but not verse 3.
The last line is even more perplexing. The reference to 2 Cor 3:5-6 is messed up and the comma after Rom 12:3 completely baffles the program.
Punctuation after a reference in parentheses definitely causes a problem to the hyperlink creator, but there are other issues as well.
While we're on this subject, one L3 feature I miss is recognizing Bible refs that start with a lower case letter. For example, L3 would recognize rom 12:3 but L4 does not.
I'm sure this has been pointed out before and perhaps explained. I still would like to have the ability to skip the CAP key when typing in a reference in Notes.
Thanks, Mark. That was quite helpful.
