I've been using the Holman Christian Standard Bible while I am (im)patiently waiting. It is similar to the NIV and I have kind of grown to like it, but will still be much happier when the NIV gets here, if it ever does.

Have you tried NET? I think it's a great translation, especially given the NIV vacuum.

I also agree with Tom that the HCSB is a really good translation.

There are some great translations available, but the NIV is our pew bible and to use the NIV is a must for my preparations

I'm not a pastor but a layman and what you said intrigues me....can you explain why that is? That you must use the "Pew Bible" for prep of your sermon?

Forgive my ignorance...I'm a layman as I said.
