Mind Mapping program integration

  ...Currently if I just highlight, copy, paste from Logos to MS Word or ppt, logos is really cool in that it includes footnotes and a citation.  No such feature in MM :-(. 

I've brought this up to MM and they don't care since we are not a large enough client base for them. It is frustrating.

I think i like your idea of cross linking.  What do you mean by what's in Logos would update in external app?  All I can think of is Notes, did you have other items in mind?

Suppose I could have a "link" to a Logos note or clipping file that I could put in Mind Manager or Word and the content of that note/clipping would show up in those applications and the next time I opened the document the content would change if I had changed the note/clipping in Logos. Maybe that's not as easy as just keeping notes in the external program to start with. It's just an idea.

Lastly, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by being able to create a link which would open a resource in Logos to a particular location.  We already have that feature.  Do you mean with less clicks? 

I'm not aware of this. In Mind Manager I can create a link to a web page or file. When I click on that link it opens a web browser or the appropriate document program.  Can I create a link in MM that would open Logos and take me to a location in a specific resource?  I can create such a link inside Logos 4 through the favorites list. I'd like to be able to have such a link in an external document. Can that be done?  I'd also like to have an external link to a folder in the Logos favorites that would copy all the links in the favorites folder to my external application and keep the list up to date as I change it in Logos.

Now, to my question: Do you guys use your mind map mainly to study and organize your thoughts for your sermon or do you actually take your mindmap to the pulpit and project it on a screen?

I would suggest a third use: the lectern.  I am currently teaching a course on Church History for adult Sunday School.  I had highlighted salient information; e.g., dates and people, in my standard text file to be used as crib notes.  If I had had this functionality, I would have built a chart for the lectern to serve as my outline.  That way, it doesn't matter how confusing it might be to someone else.  It only has to serve as a crib sheet for me.

Bob included a pdf which was a single sheet outline of the book of Acts.  Many pastors could study that chart for about 15 minutes, then use it to give an extemporaneous overview of the book.

I personally would like them to add a mind mapping functionality to Logos 4. I would like to limit the number of different software program I use and would love to see it integrated directly into Logos with the ability to link directly to resources/notes/etc. I would also like the ability to share them similiar to what they do with reading list.

What exactly do you have in mind? From your comment I gather you would like to have a mind-map format for notes?

Jim, yes that is what I would like to see. Some way to visualize notes and show how the items are related.

Been following the thread since its inception. Although I may add MindGenuis as well, I downloaded the Inspiration trial after you recommended it. While it doesn't do everything I'd like - which is why I'll probably add MindGenuis, too - I really like it and the price is right!

Merely curiosity on my part - what is it that you like about MindGenius? I often use ArguNet which has a terrific price And I still use Logos 3 for timelines.

Well, I was going to say its flexibility and MS Office Suite compatibility coupled with a super academic discount ... until you mentioned ArguNet, which as a secondary program (to Inspiration) is even better suited to my needs, with a price that just can't be beat! So, thanks yet again! [:)]

I have been working through the Learn Hebrew & Greek lessons.  I'm in the middle of the Hebrew video on word study, chasing down "council of the Lord" in Jeremiah 23:18 where "sod" is the word behind "council".  I started copying the notetaking in the video, using both Logos notes but also in freemind -- which I decided to try motivated by this thread.  I enjoyed the ability to quickly move nodes around and make visual connections.  And I was able to make links back to Logos -- to verses, Bible word study tool, searches, and notes.  I assume passage lists and other resources would be linkable too. (see image below - I hope it shows up OK.  It looks kind of small.)

Then I copied the note I made in freemind and pasted it into a Logos note.  That worked well, too, although I had to use another program like KeyNote or msWord to get better line spacing.  It comes in as an indented outline. (see 2nd image below)

Anyway, I'm glad I ran onto this thread.  I think I'm going to enjoy using freemind along with Logos.  Hopefully they will become more friendly with each other as time goes by.  I left a note on the freemind forums asking how to make refTagger work in freemind -- that would be very useful, as others have pointed out.
