SUGG: "The Shape of the Liturgy" by Dom Gregory Dix

Dom Gregory Dix (1901-1952) was an English monk and priest of Nashdom Abbey, an Anglican Benedictine community. He was a noted liturgical scholar whose work had particular influence on the reform of Anglican liturgy in the mid-20th century.
"His most influential book is The Shape of the Liturgy, first
published in 1945. In this book he argued that it was not so much the
words of the liturgy but its 'shape' which mattered. This was, he
believed, even more fundamental than the inclusion of the Words of
Institution (This is my Body... This is my Blood), which he believed had
not always been included." (Wikipedia)

This is a classic!
And if we're into Liturgical classics, let's add:
- Jones - Wainwright - Yarnold (eds): The Study of Liturgy
- Aidan Kavanagh: Elements of Rite. A Handbook of Liturgical Style and On Liturgical Theology
On a slightly different note: a new (so new it hasn't yet been published) book that I've been meaning to suggest when I found time:
- David Hellholm et al (eds): Ablution, Initiation, and Baptism: Late Antiquity, Early Judaism, and Early Christianity. I just wish I could remember where it was I read (or heard?) the things that made me put it on my wish list, so that I could link to it. It sounded great, though, and with 1860 pages it must be pretty thorough. (The price is outrageous, but surely Logos must be able to do better than that, if the publisher isn't completely unreasonable.)

But there are a couple more classics we shouldn't ignore:
- Introduction to Liturgical Theology by Alexander Schmemann
- Context and Text: Method in Liturgical Theology (Pueblo Books) by Kevin W. Irwin
- Holy Things: A Liturgical Theology; Holy Ground: A Liturgical Cosmology; Holy People: A Liturgical Ecclesiology - a trilogy by Gordon Lathrop
- Early Christian Worship: A Basic Introduction...
by Paul F. Bradshaw
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Hmm, I must somehow have missed that Schmemann has written a book on liturgical theology. Or maybe I've forgotten; it was a long time since I last read him. Should be good. And if you recommend them, I'm sure the other ones are too. [:D] Like the titles of the Lathrop ones.

The four actions are his "shape" and what most liturgists think of when they think of Dix.

Not the ones you asked for, but they did just put another Lathrop on prepub: The Four Gospels on Sunday: The New Testament and the Reform of Christian Worship.

For those of you who haven't yet found out, there is now a Liturgy suggestion at Logos' new Uservoice site for prepubs: Add more works on Liturgy. Please go add your vote[s ]. And then add the remainder of your votes to other suggestions -- preferably mine.
(There is also a new Uservoice site for CP's, with another ten new votes for you to spend: http://communitypricing.uservoice.com/forums/183260-general/filters/top.)
