parallel resources not working

When I click on PR icon, the following happens (in order of frequency):

1) nothing (the most frequent response)

2) nothing...but after repeated attempts (sometimes 5 or 6...other times 10-12)... PR box finally opens

3) PRs box opens for a split second and disappears. I have to try again and race my cursor to the box before it closes. If I win the race, the PR box stays open and functions properly

4) opens properly (rare, unfortunately)

I have attached the files under "logging" (for future reference, which of these files is the necessary one?)

Does the behavior change depending on the active resource, whether a Bible or other type of resource? Have you noticed whether the behavior is worse when the active resource is part of a user-defined Collection with "Show in parallel resources" selected?

Hi Melissa.

I notice it with my Bibles and commentaries. Haven't tried other types of resources. And the ones I use are all user defined collections.

We are not able to reproduce the problem here. Are you able to use Command-arrow keys to arrow through parallel resources? Have you updated to Logos 4.0a SR-5 yet?

If it hasn't improved with SR-5, you might wait for the next release, and if the problem reoccurs, post a follow-up here.

Yes, I do have that latest update.

Yes, I can command-arrow through the resources.

Oddly enough, it is working fine today. Not sure if this is momentary satisfaction because it hasn't worked in weeks.

I'm still curious as to why the PR can take 15-30 seconds to open. If I can do a word search through my entire library in 1.6 seconds (or less), shouldn't PR open quicker?

Apologies - unable to replicate - clicked PR (parallel resources) icon in NASB 95 Update - waited 15 seconds for list to appear - clicked on different bible in same link set (changed focus and Power Lookup contents) - clicked PR icon, about 3 seconds to display list.

Wonder about screen shot of PR not responding - would like to see what else is open ?

Here is a screen shot. Yo will see the "wheel" spinning. I missed where it said 'no parallel' resources. This is common. I was fortunate today, however. I clicked twice and got 'no resources' and then it worked the 3rd time. Sometimes I click 15-20 times with no success.

When the resources do show up, it is for but a moment. They instantly disappear unless I race my cursor over the pop up.

Gregg - Would you mind updating to the 4.2a RC 1 that was released yesterday evening? To install the RC, which is considered a stable version, type Set Update Channel to Beta in the Command box and press Enter.

Once the RC has been installed, the update channel will be set back to Stable. Let us know if that version resolves the problem with parallel resource sets, and if it doesn't, please attach new logs.

Forum http://community.logos.com/forums/t/30236.aspx has steps for temporarily switching to beta channel.

If no major issues found in Release Candidate, becomes stable version in few days. Also if parallel resources has issue in 4.2a RC 1, anticipate developer attention.

also, remind me how to send logs. where do I find them?

Melissa: I think you've made a small mistake here. Regardless whether the current version is beta, RC or stable, if the update channel is beta, Greg will get all future betas. I think you're think of the default channel, which gives a beta update when you're on a beta, but a stable update when you're on an RC.

Gregg: Update channels have caused endless confusion in the past, so to be 100% sure you don't permanently join the beta program, after you've installed RC1, type set update channel to default in your command bar. RC1 has come right at the end of beta-testing, so it's already been thoroughly tested. It's probably more stable than the version you're currently using!

There are two update feeds, stable and beta. But there are three channels: stable, default, and beta.

If you're on the stable channel (set update channel to stable), you'll always get the stable feed.
If you're on the beta channel (set update channel to beta), you'll always get the beta feed.
If you're on the default channel (set update channel to default)
- You'll get the stable feed if you're running a stable or RC version.
- You'll get the beta feed if you're running a beta version.

Development's statement that it will "change your default update channel to stable" is not as clear as it needs to be. What they mean is "if you install the RC and were on the default channel you will stop getting the beta feed and start getting the stable feed". They do not mean "if you were on the beta channel you will get switched to the stable channel".

I haven't actually done anything yet as I was waiting for the dust to settle from the different comments regarding update feeds and channels. So is it OK for me to request the update form Melissa's original post? If so, do I "set it and forget it" or do I have to go back and turn something off. :-)
