Note Training

I have been experimenting with L4 using it with a demo of Parallels. (I have been using Vmware Fusion). Parallels definitely has some advantages and I may do a competitive upgrade to Parallels 6 but the real question is regarding notes. Using L4 in windows the note feature certainly works better and it is a staple for me but I am struggling even with notes in the Win version. I don't know if there are training videos for notes but when I make a note I would like for the note to be accessible in all Bible versions rather than just the "active" one. Any help steering me to a resource to help would be greatly appreciated.

For a note to show up in all Bibles one must "attach" it to the reference and not to the text of a particular version. I must be doing something wrong. I cannot seem to get it to work correctly. It's not that I cannot make notes, that seems to work fine it's just that the notes are not accessible in all the version I have opened.

Perhaps uploading a screenshot with the open note-file and a Bible that shows the note and one that doesn't to give someone a chance of spotting what might be going wrong.

You've double checked your visual filter menu to make certain the name of the note file is checked, right?

Just as a check. Have you selected Reference in the right-click menu?

Then, do you have the appropriate note file selected in the Visual Filter?

Brothers, I appreciate the help. I am attaching (I hope) the screen shots. Only two Bible versions are being used at this point but I am trying to make a note that will be available in both translations. Now, verse 4 has a note that DID attach but I have no idea how it happened. I have been trying to add a rather simple note to verse 2 and while it is in the ESV it will not appear in the HCSB.

Bob, the bit of info I was hoping to see what what the entry in your note file looked like for James 1:2. I suspect that you only attached it to the text of the ESV rather than the reference but I need to see the entry to know for sure.

When I highlight the text and then right click on it I get a box that allows me to add a note to my specific note file (Bob's Notes or Sermons Notes) In the visual filters BOTH boxes are checked in both versions I am currently using. I assumed this would make the note available to at least the two versions I am currently using (ESV and HCSB). Sadly the note feature in the Mac side of things does not work nearly as well as that in the Windows side so I have been experimenting with L4 in XP using both Vmware Fusion and Parallels (I am a user of Vmware but only trying Parallels). There is no appreciable difference in the behavior of the Mac side or either one of the Windows (Vmware or Parallels) installs. I'm reasonably sure the cure is simple and that it is more than likely operator error but I certainly haven't figured it out.

Bob, adding a note is not user friendly in L4, as you have found out. When you right click and the context menu pops up, take a look at the top right part of the menu. You will first want to make sure that "Reference" is highlighted (please see Jack's screen print above). Even though the link to add a note to the note files do not fall under the selection items found at the top right part of the menu, the links to add a note are affected by which item you have selected.

Bob, here's the excruciating detail to supplement tom's answer

Since Logos has many layers of data available in some place the right click menu has to contain a lot of options, especially in the reverse interlinear Bibles.

Pardon the Windows screenshots but it'll be almost exactly the same on the Mac.

One last thing, Logos will remember the last selection when using the context menu so when you shift tasks you'll need to change it back to Selection etc.

That's correct! I think you have it figured out now

One final question that I hope is not nearly as complex as the first. Can you turn off the note highlighting that occurs when you do the "selection" type of note? Unfortunately the only way to turn off this highlighting is to de-select the Note file title in the Visual Filter Menu and you lose the colored box indicating you have a not there. It would be very nice if Logos could make a "clear" color for the highlighting as a workaround.

The note is not really connected to the verse. It is actually connected to the selected text. Perhaps seeing it that way will help with understanding what is happening. I know that you now have a handle on this, but someone else may stumble across this thread in the future.

Good thinking Jack. I'm glad I am able to use L4 with some level of productivity finally. I have decided for the time being to use L4 utilizing the Win version and Parallels (I have been using Vmware but Parallels seems quicker) until such a time that the notes feature in the Mac side is more mature.
