An interesting alternative for using L4/L4M multiple computer setups: Synergy

I've been running a Win PC from my Mac for more than a couple of years using Remote Desktop. Effectively I just switch to the Windows computer as if it were an application. I just came across this appealing alternative

I'd still be using the same mouse/keyboard; I'd just have to set up a second monitor. The key appeal is that it allows one to copy/paste across the two platforms. It would also allow me to do things on my Win box that aren't accessible via RDC.

Anyone here use Synergy?

Michael,

I have attempted to use Synergy several times in the past and always walked away frustrated. It's probably been more than a year since my last attempt. They may have ironed out the bugs that kept me away by now.

I've been using it for at least 6 years now... my experience is that it has been less quirky/buggy then a KVM, but requires some patience/restarting of the server (a 5 second process) that requires you leave a keyboard accessible unless you set it up for remote access and script a restart remotely. In my experience (it is very correlated to the software you use), the least problematic setup is when you use the PC as your keyboard and mouse. I was not OK with this so I scripted out restarts on my own.

Thanks guys. I think this has some potential to try it once I have a second monitor. RDC still does the main job for me.
