Its kind of very annoying to see advertisement in front of you. I think it would be great to put on the side or the bottom of the page. My laptop screen is small and it takes around 20% of it. Really annoying and distracting
Opps Sorry. My fault. Seems like my system is effected because advertisement pops in different websites too. Time to be upgraded from Xp
I do recommend you skip the Windows Vista step and go for Windows 7. You will be happy you did.

I didn't skip Vista either, but I never had any problems. Now I have Windows 7 and wouldn't go back.
you could always hold out for Windows 8 which I think is supposed to be coming next year.

You could block pop-ups within XP. Externally, You could get malware software. I use malwarebytes....It's free. I too have an old netbook that simply doesn't have the resources to run 7. There are workarounds for the outdated OS.
I dont like spyware software because they use lots of memory. Usually I feel when its effected and deal with it manually. I would rather have a virus than a Norton
Apologies: after cleaning up after some viruses, personally choose to avoid; would rather use computer for Logos Bible Study than clean up a virus. Over the years have noticed malware becoming much more sophisticated. Also remember a well known music label including their own digital rights management (DRM) software on music CD's that would install a root kit on Windows computers without asking user. Root kits can be hard to detect and difficult to remove; quicker to rebuild computer configuration using known good software.
Thankful for web browsers (that can run on XP) with optional extensions to block scripts running on untrusted web sites plus block ads.
