The NVIDIA Quadro 3000M (2GB)
mobile graphic card detects when high performance graphics processing is needed
and turns on the GPU. Otherwise, "integrated graphics" are used and the
total laptop current drain is nearly halved.
Will NVIDIA cards turn on its GPU
to speed Logos?
NVIDIA's explanation for detecting
high graphic demand is at http://www.nvidia.com/object/LO_optimus_whitepapers.html, the key excerpt from page 16 is quoted below:
". . . it sends a signal to
power-on the GPU when it finds the following three call types:
DX Calls:
Any 3D game engine or DirectX application will trigger these calls
DXVA Calls:
Video playback will trigger these calls (DXVA = DirectX Video Acceleration)
CUDA Calls:
CUDA applications will trigger these calls"
Reading further in the
whitepaper, one sees that NVIDIA has tested and developed profiles for specific
applications. Is Logos on the list?
A general video/graphic card question: Logos recommends 512 MB graphics memory, is 1 or 2 GB any additional benefit?
Mark Smith, I noted that your PC has NVIDIA
GeForce GT 550M 1 GB graphics card with the Optimus detection. Does it work
well with Logos?
Thanks in advance . . . Scott
