not sure if this is an option, but if so please help!

Is it possible to take a given passage (say a series of chapters in 2 Kings) and have Logos show me a map with the cities that are mentioned? Or do I need to go through and identify each city and then look it up using the "places" tool? Also, is there a way to show a map of the region with only certain cities shown? It seems a pain to look through all the maps on the places tool when most have way too much info to be useful for a brief discussion in a Bible study.

Well, that's a good start. I forgot I had that option hidden in my "My Passage Guide" template. It shows me all the places referred to in the passage, and certain maps associated with each of those places (see picture below). But, it doesn't really show me one comprehensive map with those places and only those places.

The more I think about it, the more I realize what I really want is a custom map option. Something where I can pull up the Holy Land region and select which cities I want to have shown, and leave everything else off. Anyone know of a way to do this, either in Logos or on a website somewhere?

Not the answer you're looking for (!) but I went through all the date-able maps and then made each a favorite sorted by approximate date.

I do the same for each of my resources where there's maps. So for a target period, I end up with 4-5 maps.

That way, when I get to a passage as you mention, I've a set of maps that show the various locations discussed.

In the example you mention, the maps would be in the Judaic pre-excilic period.

It actually doesn't take as long as you might imagine. On Bible Places, one just picks a very common location which pulls up the most Logos maps. Click on each and then drag the tab to the favorites folder and give each a date/description. Same for resources that have maps.

Just an idea for consideration.
I like the approach since many also show the roads, and geographic features.

Just saw Dave's and then your customizable map.

Closest I use is Bible Mapper where you can select the time period and then customize as desired.

There is other Mac bible map software that does allow you to create and manage custom "items" in maps (and timelines), groupings of those items for controlled display, and "Layers" for geographical sections (i.e. polygons)... like biblemaker (windows only), it is a labor and doesn't always give you the look you may want. It also doesn't allow you to identify multiple places from a passage and map it automatically, you need to select one place at a time and create a group to display only those items.

In all honest, it takes MUCH less time to just do like we used to do back in school: use a "blank" map and overlay the item points and names that you want using any layer capable image software... or even desk top publishing cable app.

Do you have the name of the Mac program? I downloaded the Bible Mapper program for Windows (running through parallels), which is pretty good for what I'm looking for. It would be nice to have a native Mac app of course.
