If you have a clipping by the name "Stewardship" and try to give a note the same name, the note automatically defaults to "Stewardship (2)".
Can anyone one duplicate this?
Its been that way from the beginning of L4.
Thanks Steve.
That's an interesting detail which I'm unaware of since I never use clippings (I just don't see any advantage over notes). I would have thought that clippings would have a different extension from notes and could therefore share the same name.

This is not only for Notes & Clippings, you can't use the same name for any of the docs (under File). L4 will rename a doc if it finds the same name.

L4's docs are not saved as files. They are saved within Databases. i would guess the reason has to do with the way that L4 shows all docs under the File menu. The different doc types are saved in different DBs, so one would guess that Logos could have allowed the same name for different doc types. But since they are all displayed under File they would have to be unique.

I would disagree the need to be unique under file menu since when you look under file menu not only do you get the name but also the document type shown so it would be easy to distinguish between the two visually. If they set up the database correctly I dont' see why having the same name for a note file and clipping and a visual filter should cause any problems. Seems to me a design choice someone made rather than a can't do thing.....all I can think is it was decided to make the document name a unique identifier but that would not be the only unique identifier in the record. Ultimately it is the end-user experience that should be 'King' and I think the end-user experience has lost out on this issue.
(Steve I know your just the messenger on this one so wasn't shooting at you [;)] )

The databases Clippings.db and Handout.db have the same fields but (rather shortsightedly) do not contain the Title the user assigns and sees in the File menu. That is contained in the infamous DocumentInfo.db. However the overall database design does not prevent Clippings, Handouts, Notes etc from having the same Title, so the restriction must lie with the software.
