NICOT/NICNT vs WBC
Seems like now is the best deal for NICOT/NICNT. Is it really worth such investment? How better is NICOT/NICNT vs WBC, I don't have both of those commentaries

Hmmm no takers to answer your question eh? Aaight here's the short down to earth answer:
Similarities: Both are still incomplete, both are technical and both have uneven volumes.
Differences: NICOT/NICNT is more expensive than WBC
In short, WBC is the cheaper version of NICOT/NICNT...LOL

I imagine the NICOT/NT is a great series, but I ended up choosing the WBC (on a 3rd party special) + an upgrade to Platinum where I got several other commentaries including the New International Greek Testament Commentary, the UBS handbooks, NAC etc. For what I could afford, that seemed a better combination.
Hopefully others will give you other perspectives too.

i briefly owned both, i find WBC which i do own to be greg and use it a lot…. I had NIC for about 1 week and found it not helpful. Lots of people love it but i got so little out of it i returned it. NOT just from a price point for me the WBC is far better.

I personally benefit more from NIC than from WBC. It is a bunch more money than some of the $399 specials for WBC that have popped up, but I would not want to be without it. If I could only keep one I'd keep NIC.

I have both, and they are both good and complement one another. However, I would rank NICOT / NICNT as the better set. Every commentary set has some volumes better than others, but I believe from top to bottom NICOT / NICNT has more strong volumes than any other set. WBC would be a not too distant second. That is just my opinion.
Why NICOT / NT? Oswalt on Isaiah, Moo on Romans, Mounce on Revelation, F.F. Bruce on Acts and Hebrews, I. Howard Marshall on John's Epistles, and on and on. That is just off the top of my head. There is much more. It is like 1927 New York Yankees lineup! It just doesn't get much better.
Mark is right. If I could only keep one it would be the NICOT / NICNT.

From what I've seen NICOT/NICNT doesn't deal with the original languages very extensively. That is a definite demerit.

Agreed. That would be one difference. WBC tends to do more examination of the original text than NICOT/NICNT. I have both and enjoy both for different reasons.

100% agree. I could happily live without WBC, but I'd seriously miss NICNT/NICOT. It's better, in my view because:
- It doesn't have WBC's really annyoing format.
- It is more theologically robust, and more theologically consistent.
- There are several NICNT/NICOT volumes that are outstanding, whilst only one or two WBC volumes reach that standard.
- There are less duds in NICOT/NICNT.
In short, I'd rank WBC volumes in the average-good range, with the occasional very good. I'd rank NIC in the good-very good range with a fair smattering of excellent.

I'd have to argue the exact opposite for Logos. The WBC is perfect as each pericope is structured in such a way that you can click on the exegesis, textual or application elements of the text. Having said that the NICNT is fantastic and contains some of my favourite volumes of any series! [:)]

Thank to you all for your input. Hmmm.... Seems like NICOT/NICNT has more praise from those who have both. A tough decision which I have to make during the holidays.

Well, now that Day 10's offer includes WBC, this is a great time to pick it up. I have owned WBC for two years now and have found it to be very helpful at times. I don't like the format, but for 59 vols of scholarly work $599 (plus all the extra books in the Nelson Bundle) is not a bad price.
Plus, you'd get a lot of Logos Credit!

I'm in the same boat as the OP and have found all the comments very helpful.
Personally, I'm tempted to get the more expensive NICOT/NICNT resource now to maximise the Logos Christmas credit, and, when resources allow further down the line, I'd buy WBC from a third party retailer for $399 (unless Logos would price match - If they do price match, the Christmas credit earned on NICOT/NICNTwould go a long way to buying WBC!)

They won't. Been asked before. Esp. if they'd have to top it off with credit back. The 'other' offer is a great deal even w/o credit. Of course it means you can't use your credit to buy it. Decisions, decisions!

All you have to do is ask the third party on the "special notes" to email you the serial # and then you can call Logos and they'll unlock it for you. The third party won't charge you shipping, at first they will, but when they email the serial # they will then adjust the charge on your card to deduct the shipping costs. Just a thought if you really want it. I want it too but I can't at this time.
