I get the message "Web Service Communication Error" when I try to login when the mac alpha opens. Is the login server overloaded or is this because I'm behind a firewall? If so, is there a way i can specify a proxy server? Thanks.
Or, does anyone know what the url for the login server is so I can test it with my proxy?
Firewall might have something to do with it. Make sure L4 is on your list of approved applications

Thanks, but the firewall on my mac is off. I was referring to our university firewall. That's why I want to set a proxy as it doesn't seem to use the system proxy.
The program goes thru my university firewall just fine.

P.S. maybe you can find the web server's address in the Log file
Try this
https://clientservices.logos.com/update/v1/feed/logos4-mac/beta.xml'.
Yeah, i found that in the log file, but that's just the update feed. It seems to work fine in my browser, but if L4 (or anything else) doesn't use the proxy it won't work, as that is the only way out to the internet here.
Found a solution. As i have my proxy set in bashrc, if enter
open "/Applications/Logos Bible Software 4.app"
in Terminal it uses the proxy and logs in and doesn't give the Web Service Communication Error
If anyone else is having this problem and isn't sure or doesn't want to set the proxy manually in .bashrc entering this in Terminal.app should work as well
export http_proxy=http://<proxy_server>:8080
"/Applications/Logos Bible Software 4.app"
Change <proxy_server> to your proxy server. You can see what that is by entering
networksetup -getwebproxy ethernet
in Terminal.
