ESV Text Revision 2011 - Printable version

When Crossway quietly revised the text of the ESV in 2007, for reasons known only to themselves, they declined my request for a list of their changes. Evidently they also refused to provide Accordance with such a list and Accordance had to go through the exercise of working through the entire Bible in order to update their software.
Now that they have once again revised the text of the ESV in 2011, Crossway have graciously decided to provide a list of the changes, but in swf format, which appears to be not so easy to convert to a printable format (at least to a dummy like me!). However, one can usually find a long way around to get things done and for anyone who is interested in the changes, I've attached a doc. file converted from Crossway's swf file. Some changes are minor; others rather interesting! (Gratefully, Logos has already updated both the ESV and ESVRI ).

Hmmm..., I wonder if the HDNT, ESVSB or all the other resources that draw upon the ESV text will be updated?

Appears HDNT (ESV) has not been updated so can compare ESV and HDNT (ESV) to show differences:

And, for the HDNT to be updated, it would take a bit more than text only, since it includes all the graphic markers, etc. That seems like it would be a major undertaking...
And, I suppose this would also be true for ESVSB...

Appears need to find Bible verse snippets in ESV Study Bible that have changed: e.g. 1 Corinthians 7:21 slave => bondservant

those are some interesting changes! It always surprises me why Bible publishing companies would do this and the routes they choose to conceal/promote the changes.
To Logos' credit, they did quietly revise the NLT after it underwent massive changes from 1996->2004->2007.

I heard Wayne Grudem (an ESV translation member) speak about the changes to the ESV. The purpose of a translation, of course, is for people to understand God's Word in their language. Since language changes, so must translations. Since the original translation committee met, the translators felt that "slave" had picked up more "baggage", so bondservant was used instead in the revised edition. Sometimes the changes are more dramatic, which was the case with the NIV this year.

Thanks, Rob. I just ordered my ESV Study Bible and it is a 2008 Edition, at least that is what the site says, but, I have printed your document for the changes.
