Shut Down...

Whenever I enter Scripture or click on Scripture to use Passage/Exegesis Gude, the Logos 4 program shuts down. I have had this problem for many months now. I do not live in a broadband area. I use my phone's "hotspot" as my wireless connection. Please help!!!

Welcome to the forums and sorry to hear that you have been having problems for so long.

Are you able to provide a bit more detail as to what you do to cause this crash? Does this happen, for example, whenever you enter any Scripture verse and try to run either a Passage or Exegetical Guide?

What version of Mac OS are you running and what version of Logos software?

Does this happen when you are disconnected from the Internet? Logos should give you what you are trying to do when disconnected as well as when connected

It would be useful if you could provide logs after a crash. For details of how to do this, please see http://wiki.logos.com/Mac_Troubleshooting#How_to_Report_Bugs_in_Logos_4_Mac

Tagging posts in the forum - which you might be referring to - is a way of identifying what subject(s) the post relates to.

I am using Mac OS 10.6.8; Logos version: 4.3 SR-8 (4.30.0.1624). The "crash" occurs both on-line and off.

I will try to send you logs after I read the instructions (I am not very computer savvy:-)).

Okay. When I opened the Logos 4 Program:

1. On the home page I enter the Scripture 1Samuel 30:1-5. Pressed enter button

2. The Passage guide automatically launched.

3. Within in few seconds it crashed and the entire Logos program closed out.

(Interesting though, when I initially put in 1 Peter 5:5-7, the Passage Guide launched without crashing! For most passages, it has crashed.)

Looked in posted archive; noticed Indexing is not enabled for logging along with many Indexer errors. Likewise noticed a search error in Logos4.log due to index not being complete.

Wonder about:

Enabling diagnostic logging
Restart Mac
Launch Logos 4 Mac
Use "Rebuild Index" command
Wait for Blue Indexer Icon to disappear in Menu Bar, which may take hours
Try passage 1Samuel 30:1-5 on Home Page => Go
If crash again, please compress and upload diagnostic log files
If Home Page Go works, please Smile [8-|] and reply so I can Smile with you [8-|]

Option: download and use an applescipt application 5504.Logos4MacLogging.app.zip to display logging setting, then change to enable logging.

Wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging#Mac with terminal commands, which are used in the applescript application.

Wiki has Getting Started with Logos => Installation + Indexing with tips and links, including: "Before installing Logos 4, connect computer to reliable network and power adapter, disable computer and hard drive sleep (OK for monitor to sleep). Laptop cooler is a good idea."

Your indexing time depends on the number of resources in your library and Mac hardware capabilities. While indexing is in progress, you can open Indexer.log to watch progress; by default, Apple's console utility scrolls the Indexer.log file as lines are written. While indexing being done, you can read resource(s); e.g. can use command "Open ESV" to open the ESV Bible. However, searching does not work correctly until indexing has completed merging postings. Entering a passage on Home Page opens a default layout with many searches.

Forum thread => http://community.logos.com/forums/p/32063/238803.aspx#238803 includes a screen shot showing "Rebuild Bible Index" command in Logos 4 Mac. The "Rebuild Index" command rebuilds both the Bible and Library indexes.
