What's blocking Logos 4 from running?

My Logos 4 will not run. I click on the icon and the logo appears for a brief second and then nothing comes up. I believe one of my anti-virus programs is blocking it.

I contacted McAfee and tech-support checked and its not them. I uninstalled Spybot S&D and AdWare and it still doesn't run.

How do I check to see what's stopping Logos 4 from running???

Boot your computer into Safe Mode If you can run Logos 4 then one of your startup programs is blocking it. Use MSconfig to enable/disable programs in normal boot mode.

Hey Bob,

First, let's try a repair of Logos. Open your Control Panel, then Programs and Features (on Windows Vista/7) or Add or Remove Programs (XP). Find Logos 4, right click on it and select Repair. After that processes try to start Logos, this time while holding down the Ctrl key (this will enable logging). When/If the sign in screen comes up click "Log in" and if Logos launches you should be good to go. If not, then look in your My Documents folder for a Logos Log files folder. Zip up the contents of that folder and post it to this thread.

It could be all kinds of reasons, not just an anti-virus problem. The best thing to do is to turn logging on (see 'How to ask for help'), try and run Logos, then upload the log.

Mine also does not want to run (this is on my home PC - the problem I had with highlighting was on my laptop - there everything is now fine, thanks to Richard and Bradley). To update my home PC (running Windows Vista) to the latest release, I completely uninstalled Logos after copying the users, data and documents folder to my desktop (I'm doing this as the normal update procedure via Logos itself has not been working for me for some time now on both my computers). Then I updated using the Logos4setup.exe file. After installation was completed successfully, I did not allow Logos to startup killing it through task manager, and then first copied the three folders I mentioned before back into their correct place. Thereafter I started Logos up withing a few seconds before the login screen appears, there is a message from windows saying Logos bible software has stopped working. I then tried it in safe mode but the same thing happens. Log files for normal startup and for safe mode startup attached.4274.Logos Log Files.zip

Arie,

The error shows that you're still running Logos 4.3, even though your documents and preferences are from Logos 4.5. That's why it won't load. We therefore need to make sure that 4.5 is installed.

Personally, I'd much rather fix the install problem, then install properly, than work around whatever the problem is and run the risk of the install not working properly.

Could you therefore please attempt to install Logos 4.5 by running http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe

Can you then post any logs, and exact error messages that you get during the install. You can upload screenshots if it's easier than typing out the full error message: http://wiki.logos.com/Screenshot

Egg on my face! Sorry, I used an old setup file (thought it was just a shell script downloading the latest version, but now I know I was wrong). After downloading the latest setup file there was no problem.

The .exe file you download is just a shell script, but that downloads the proper install files. I guess you had kept those. Anyway, I'm glad it's working now.
