I have a new Windows computer running Windows 7. I need to buy a new monitor. What are my best options? A 27" monitor? will I be able to split the screen with Logos? Or will I need two smaller monitors sitting side by side? I need some good advice?
Yes you can split the screen or have several panes. If money is not an object I would go for something like two 22" monitors. You can also use floating windows to divide up what your working on. I prefer having two monitors.
There are rules of diminishing returns with monitor size, though I'm not sure what they are. Do some googling on multiple monitors however and you may find that having two monitors of fair size is better than having one massive monitor.
Yes you will be able to split the screen and resize Logos - it will function in that regard like other Windows programs.
My own setup consists of two 22" monitors sitting on either side of my 15" laptop. With one or two windows on each screen I can zip back and forth with my eyes to do comparative studies.

Using a 27" iMac with screen resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 is similar to two monitors side by side, but lacks air gap between monitors for window placement.
Caveat: can buy several monitors with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 (HD 1080p) for less than one 27" or 30" monitor that has 2,560 horizontal resolution.
If I was buying a monitor, would look for LED backlight. Also I would look at High Definition TV's. If need something bigger for easier readability, found a refurbished Vizio 26" HD TV with 1080p resolution and LED backlight for $ 189.95

There are many benefits to having two discrete monitors Vs. one very large monitor. While you can pile everything you may want open onto a single monitor, the mental dichotomy of having Logos filling the entire screen on one monitor, and your browser (or word processor, etc) on the other monitor is mentally ergonomic. Also, I have two 24" monitors side by side and that gives me a tremendous amount of acreage if I measured horizontally, so it requires no mental gymnastics for me to split the screen on the right between MS Word and my browser while the monitor on the left is entirely dedicated to Logos... which means that my entire workflow is displayed at the same time: no tabbing, alt-tabbing: BAM!.. its all displayed at the same time.

One could be the quality of the text that is displayed. I recently bought a new HP desktop with an HP2711x 27in monitor specifically to run Logos, and I can't get the fonts in Logos to display smoothly to my satisfaction. I've tried several fonts and made sure "font smoothing" was turned on, but still not satisfied. I'm beginning to wonder was there a montior spec that I ignored and ended up with a lesser quality monitor. Or maybe I'm just not used to this size monitor, as this is the first time i've had a monitor this size.
Other than that it is nice having all that screen real estate for the program.
Personally I would not go over 22 - 24" and definitely go with dual monitors for Logos use. Dual 22' will offer fantastic real estate and side by side for study purposes and will not break the bank. When you get over 24" the increase in price for what you gain back is not worth it in my opinion.

It's possible. It was probably right there, however. The resolution is just 1920x1080. I have that same resolution on my 17 inch laptop monitor and it isn't bad. My best-ever monitor was a Dell 17" laptop with 1920x1200 resolution. It was so easy on the eyes. This one is somewhat 'grainier'. Spreading those 1920x1080 pixels over a 27 inch diagonal display will undoubtedly make those pixels bigger (or spread further apart).
For the same viewing distance, pixels per inch (cm/mm) is the crucial figure. The more the better.
Let me compare two monitors, yours and an HPZR2740w. They are both 16:9 27 inch monitors so have the same number of square inches of panel space (about 311 square inches). Your monitor has a 1920x1080 resolution which yields about 81 pixels per linear inch or about 6560 per square inch. The ZR2740 has a resolution of 2560x1400 pixels. This yields about 107 pixels per inch or 11,450 pixels per square inch. Your monitor has just 57% of the pixels per square inch the other higher resolution monitor has.
Actually for easy reading 120 pixels or more per inch is recommended (I forget where I saw that figure). My current monitor runs about 128. My better former Dell monitor ran about 133. I can notice that difference.
Other factors undoubtedly weigh in, but pixels per inch is the big one.
Now you may have paid just north of $300 for your monitor. The ZR2740w will set you back over $650.
Wonder if a setup with 6 monitors would be useful for Logos 4 ?

Yeah, boy!!
Seriously, I have 2 24s, and while it was a little weird at first, I love the setup now.
Talk about fully immersive Bible Study! Now to find a laptop with six video outputs....
Or two laptops with a mouse in each hand!
I believe you could pastor three churches with a setup like that!
Take a look HERE for a pic with 4 monitors displaying Logos, and a solution to the multiple-video-output-problem on a laptop. Coincidentally, I believe Mo Proctor also uses 4 or 6 monitors for his Logos'ing.

Believe that was one of his assistants—If memory serves, it was 6 displays
Yeah, had to be. Mo has 8. That's why he's the boss.
Thanks, Mark. I think you just explained the issue I am having. I found a Wikipedia article that gives me additional perspective on this.I see that my iPhone 4 is at 326 PPI, which explains the very crisp text. It also looks like from the article that for the 16:9 aspect category, a 2560x1440 resolution for a 27in is about as good as it gets, apparently, which at 107 is well below the 128 threshhold you mention..
I hate to have to buy another monitor, but if this bugs me enough, I might have to think about it. I don't suppose there's a way to tell Logos to use less screen real estate?
I would love to have this exact screen set-up.
@ Joshua G, me too!!!!!!
I have a 23 inch and a 46 inch HDTV wall mounted. It is a fantastic setup for Logos with floating windows. I am able to keep everything visible at once, which has really increased my productivity. I usually also study with my iPad propped up next to me with either my Bible or a commentary I'm reading on it for some extra real estate and portability if I want to step away from my desk for a minute to read.
