Logos 4 keeps crashing

I enthusiastically donwloaded and installed Logos 4 yesterday, and after leaving the computer to download and index overnight have tried to use it today - but it crashes whenever I try to do anything more than look at the home page. I get a Windows box saying 'Logos Bible Software 4 has stopped working. A problem caused the program ot stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available'.
For information, I've tried with both Firefox and IE8 as default browsers; I'm running a fully updated Vista installation on a PC well above the minimum specification, with over 70 GB free after installation and indexing.
Any ideas, please?
Thanks.

Same problem here, only I'm on XP.

Nick,
This is possibly a homepage bug....
Do this:
shut down Logos.
As you click the button to launch...hold down Ctrl until you see the screen "logging in" and there will be a small check box to choose.."open to a blank layout" or something similar....that will force Logos to open without opening the homepage.
Once Logos is open...then use the "update now" command in the command bar and wait to see if you might not have gotten all of the updates.
Also, after you launch to a blank layout, can you go to "help" >about and then post your "version number? That might be a good source of info...

Thanks - I've now tried that, opening to a blank page. The 'version number' is SR-2 (4.0.3.2368).
I then tried the 'update now' command, and before I'd even pressed return I had the same crash.
Any further ideas...?

Nick,
No...no further ideas...this sounds like one for the Logos support staff.

Nick,
Can you enable logging and post your logs for Logos? To enable logging here is what a Logos rep said in another thread:
Logging is disabled by default... To turn it on (or off), run:
- http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LDLS4Installer/DisableLogging.js
Enable logging then start Logos. When it crashes check your Documents directory for a Logos Log Files folder. Zip the folder and upload it to this post or email it to Logos support with a description of your problem. That should help them figure out what is causing the crash.

Chris,
Thanks - I've just finished a long but very helpful phone conversation with Logos tech support, which identified the problem as a conflict with Nokia Phone suite (version 7). With this deactivated, Logos is running fine so far...

OK, I spoke too soon... I'll take your advice and send the logfile to Logos support. Thanks!

You may post the log in this thread, or start a new one. Include reproduction steps preferably in a numerical list fashion, thanks.

You may also follow Chris's link for the EnableLogging.js file and post the logs here, or start a new thread, the logs are necessary for us. Thanks

Sorry - how do I upload the log file?
Thanks

When posting to this thread if you click on the 'Options' green button, you should see a form allowing you to upload a single file. You may zip the directory and upload that.

Hi Nick, thanks for the log. Can you post the steps you took to reproduce this crash? I'm guessing you can reproduce it every time.

George,
This time it was building a passage guide on Philippians 4:4-7, when I asked it for 'more' commentaries. It seems to happen at other times as well.
The conversation I had earlier was referenced as case 49473 if that helps!

Hi a fix for this was committed and it should appear in a future release. Sorry for the inconvenience but thanks for helping us find this obscure bug!

Updating - my laptop has just done a 550MB download, and Logos now seems to be working ok. I'm not sure I'll risk it with the Nokia app just yet, though!
I'll post again if the problem recurs - thanks for all the advice and help.

OK, spoke too soon again...
It got a lot further this time, and I was searching the library for a lectionary when it crashed.
I'll try disabling all the Nokia software at startup, but not until tomorrow now. Any ideas, anyone?
Thanks.

This looks like the same Nokia-related crash again. We'll try to get the fix into the next update that we release.

Any news on this update? I realise that you're busy and it may not be straightforward, but it's frustrating to be able to glimpse all that L4 can do, having paid for it, and not be able to use it for more than a couple of minutes at a time!

We anticipate releasing SR-4 (with this fix, and a couple of others) on Thursday (PST).

That's great - thanks very much, and sorry for my impatience!

I've installed SR 4 (version number now 4.0.3.2672) and the crashing is worse! This time it crashed while loading the home page. (Log file attached).
Yesterday I tried uninstalling all my Nokia software to see if that helped, then reinstalling Logos 4. No help.
Should I just give up on L4? And can I use the resources which I bought as part of the Platinum upgrade in L3? Or is a reliable fix imminent?
Sorry to be demanding, but as Logos has been one of my 'reasons for having a PC' pieces of software since Version 1.6, I'm an enthusiast, and so feeling frustrated at not being able to use my new resource/play with a new toy...

Hi Nick,
The fix was inadvertently omitted from SR-4 (due to a configuration error on our end). We will be releasing SR-5 ASAP with this fix included.
(Also, could you please post your log file again? I was unable to download the last one you attached, and I just want to make sure it's the same crash.)

The problem is those numbers at the end of the link. Nick, when you attach the file, don't let 550 number stay at the editing of post. Put there 0 or nothing and it should be OK.

SR-5 is now out; does it fix the problem?

Looks promising so far - the home page came up without crashing, and the 'update now' command which has caused an instant crash every time previously didn't cause any problems [though it didn't seem to do anything positive either... ;-)]
I haven't used it for long yet, but I've tried passage and exegetical guides, a couple of searches and so on, and it seems stable so far. With a sermon to finish tomorrow and some study to do, I'll let you know...
Thanks for all the work you've put into this. I do appreciate it!
Yours,
Nick

After a weekend of pretty solid use - two sermons finished off and some research for a dissertation - it's going strong, no crashes.
Thank you!

I purchased the software upgrade last week and have gotten up at 2:00 am several mornings to download everything since I have Hughes Net as my ISP and don't want to get fapped during the day. I live in the woods of East Tennessee and have no other option. I can only download 450 mb a day except from 2-7 am. It would be nice if Logos would come up with a way to have downloads occur only at night like windows update does. After almost a week the program is still indexing and now everytime I start the program windows tells me Logos 4 has stopped working. I have windows updates turned off and my AVG off as well. Any ideas? Thanks.

Michael,
My initial response is that you might want to either increase your download cap (can you do that with Hughes?) or order the media cd:

I now have the media CD and believe all of my resources are on my hard drive.
shut down Logos.

command bar and wait to see if you might not have gotten all of the
updates.I have version SR5 and can start it like Robert Pavich recommended. When I try to open my homepage it crashes though. One last thing, the only message I get on the icon in my taskbar is indexing. It has not said anything about downloading for a long time. Thank you for all of your help!

I was very excited about this new Logos 4, but it runs very very slow. I kind of regret ever getting it. The thing I dislike about it the most is that it does not let you make any changes to your passage guide search! [:(]
0 -
I'm not sure what you mean by that.DavidPerezII said:The thing I dislike about it the most is that it does not let you make any changes to your passage guide search!
You can modify the PG in many ways. Make "for the moment" additions by clicking ADD (right arrow) and make whole new guides by clicking Guides>Make a new guide template. Modify away and if you want to replace the default guide just name your new guide, "My passage Guide" . That one will now become the system default.
