How to NOTES - 2 videos

I made two videos of the Notes section of the Biblia.com and how they integrate with F-Life.

I point out what some of us think might be an error in the systems linkage, we dunno/?

You the developers and of course Bob, have a look see and PLEASE inform us - we are aware that this is a BETA, so maybe this will help, again - I dunno/? [I am just a befuddled user of L4]

Thanks for the demonstration - as you can see it's a bit hard to do in Firefox as there is no dropdown box on the left. It's a lot easier with IE or Chrome [:D]

I did try IE8 but the text was jumbled in certain areas, then I used Chrome. It would be nice if the techies to figure out a good cross-platform that would work../?

I have spent a big chunk of the day trying to figure out where these notes were on Biblia that you have been talking about, as soon as I saw your video the light came on and it dawned on me why I was having such a big problem. As soon as I fired up IE and Chrome I could see what you were talking about (literally!)

I don't think there is a linkage error. The notes are linked to Scripture reference, not translation. This makes sense because they are notes we share. This way a community/group member could see someone else's notes on Philemon 1:17 for example, regardless if they are using the LEB or ESV.

Thats almost persuadable to the point of being real. But if that be the case, then why would there be a need - any need at all - to have a drop menu to associate the note with a group - any group - public or private - ?

Just make the note and be done with it - no need to be specific as to whom it is directed, like with using the 'share'.

Yes I agree, that others can see the note, which to me again speaks against the need for a group specific driven menu, especially when your note is visable openly - anyway! Somehow it just sticks in my mind that this is redundant programming. It is hard to see the benefit when I do one process and see no results - needless to say the final destination of the group specifics -vs- the process of the 'share' and the results it brings.

So you can do your group bible study on James and add your notes to it (the share-functionality does not leave notes in biblia, but brings the cited text over to the group discussion). You'll have your Christadelphian notes on it, and won't even see that there is a greek-orthodox group that has their own notes to the same text.

I think it makes sense and I don't see the biblia-notes as broken or somewhat. One's bible-notes, the other sharing of bible-text for the group.

the point is that you are a member of both Christadelphian and FPC groups. I can't see your FPC note as I'm not a member of FPC group. And those here who are not members of Christadelphian shouldn't be able to see my note.

EDIT: to prove this to you, I set up a new group and posted a note to James 4:3 on biblia (I think it no longer matters which bible versiojn there) and - inadvertently - on James 3:1 as well. If this works as I think it should, you won't be able to see those.

Green: we both are in group Christadelphian, therefore we both see this. Red: you are not in group "Logos Users Germany", so you can't see this (everything else would be a severe bug wiping Bob's idea of putting bible study to the 'web!), but you should have your own note in the FPC group where I put the blue box. I can't see this and that's okay so!

Thanks for sharing. But I don't understand your question about "a way" - your screenshot and mine together show that biblia works as (imho) intended: Users can put up bible notes visible for people belonging to a group the user chooses. They can see the notes of all groups they belong to, but - rightly so! - can't see the notes of other groups.

EDIT: after seeing your remark about the "private" group: The privacy-status of the group doesn't matter, it's membership. The FPC group is open and yet I don't see your note that was intended for that group. If I joined, I would. And if I leave, I cease seeing those notes.

EDIT 2: I just changed the group to "open". You may try joining, looking at James 3:1 and leaving it, F-5 and looking again.

Robert, as Mick says, I don't really think you are thinking this through....you are just looking at Faithlife through the eyes of a few testers, what you really need to do is to think of what it will be like with thousands of users, many of whom (in some cases possibly the majority) do not share the same views as you on certain passages of scripture.

If we could all see everybody's notes there would be a riot! Just think of Matthew 16:18 or Matthew 26:26 for example

R4M, the language you are using appears to the listener (specifically me) to be "itching for a fight". Unfortunately, I don't understand your motives and so it makes it hard for me to understand what point you are trying to make. Are you trying to say that you want all your notes visible to the 1,000,000 or so users of Logos? If so, I need to know why I would want to see your notes. They'd have to have enough value to me for it to not be a waste of my time to scroll through them to the notes that actually come from users I am collaborating with. For myself, orthodoxy is not the issue, fitting into the topic of collaboration is.

However, I think there is another side to this sharing which might be the direction you are thinking. This same mechanism may be how we share note files and PB that we do want to share with 1,000,000 users. Those would not need to be limited to a group but would be a "share all" sort of thing. However, here Logos would have to provide me with tools so sort through the heap and pull up resources that would be of interest to me. I have severely limited time (a mere 24 hours a day) and there is so much out there worth reading that I limit myself to topics that interest me - lectionaries do, millennial theology does not; history of interpretation does, pastoral management does not ...

This appears to have been an accidental beta, Bob's decision after too many accidental leaks. As it is very multiplatform and integrated, let's give Logos a bit of time to make sure all the pieces are in place and that we can see the larger picture of what they are trying to achieve. Your input is important.

While I was out I made a few calls to some other preachers of other denominations that I know of. Now concerning the notes issue no one would care to read notes from another faith and yes it would be rather chaotic to do so I agree. But then how many use Biblia - not many from those that I talked to, some did not even know of it's existence. It appears that some use their own setup, and most accurately, their own forum(s).

Now in regards to Logos[HQ], they are embarking, from my experience, on the very thing that others have hope for for yrs, especially when I briefly discussed it with those I called. They have, or are attempting to have, an online bible/forum/personal bible program all integrated into one platform experience. This allows it's user, professionally and personally, to intermingle locally and broadly, limiting the time it would take to socialize/gather in person, or schedule a meeting, formally or informally.

With HQ's possible[potential] release of L5, which may or may not incorporate the total package of cross-platform migration, this may soon become a reality that will make them a Tier1 Bible package. The only other group that I am aware of that is attempting this is ???[sorry can't tell ya].

Yes, I agree the notes would have to be tied to the group per se, but as you demonstrated that note as with the group would have to be in a private manner. Now how many are going to make their group private, when the purpose, or apparent purpose, is an open forum?

Not every group is going to be closed –or- private are they?, if we say yes then we are merely speculating based on limited knowledge…many will be open to the general populous[again speculation].

If F-life is solely invite only, or the vast majority are closed or private, then what is the purpose of it’s existence - -Private Christians? OHH WOW!! Wouldn’t that just make God proud……

Faithlife is community oriented. There are already lots of ways to share publicly -- Twitter, Facebook, and many others. And if you want to be public on Faithlife, you can be -- set your privacy settings to "Everyone" and post to My Faithlife, which anyone can see on your page if you allow.

There are even public shared notes systems, like YouVersion, and the previous generation of eBible. Our observation, though, is that people want and need to share within specific communities. Sometimes for privacy -- you may not want to share your Bible study notes for the "Something Addicts Recovery Group" with the whole world -- and sometimes just for logistical reasons: I want to see my 200 person church's notes on the passage the pastor is preaching this week, without the clutter of devotional observations from thousands of people I don't know.

Bob, I would agree. And, out of the 585 who have view'd F-life beta, if 85% who have view'd the supplied video's on the notes and how to used them, now have more of an understanding of how to better use Biblia and have a better understanding of the internal functional relationship between Biblia and Faithlife.

So yes, they can share openly[publicly] and if so choose privately, based on the group settings.
