Works of Jonathan Edwards

I was thinking it would be really cool to have the works of Jonathan Edwards in Logos, so I checked my library and only found one resource that John Piper had written on top of a Jonathan Edwards text.

Naturally I checked the website and found this under development (which means I can't add it to my wish list!):

That looks like a great set, and it's a steep price. But I know it's a good price too. My question is, what is the likely increase in price once this set goes into production? If it's going to go from $900 to $1,000, I'll be happy to wait. If it's going to go to $1,700, I would probably think very hard about ponying up immediately.

For those with many years of Logos experience (or really anyone who has researched the ways of Logos), what is the likely increase? Is there a typical increase from pre-pub to production? Is there a typical discount off of "retail"?

PS I took a look at this thread, but the discussion is only about the existing price. I suppose one of the things I'm thinking through is if it's worth waiting until the next Christmas sale so I can get some Logos cash back for making such a large purchase, but it's not worth it if the price increase offsets whatever I would get in credit.

The Christmas credit was a new thing this year. There is no guarantee it will ever come back.

Have you checked the standard 2-volume Edwards set? It has most of Edwards' important works, is available immediately and doesn't cost nearly as much (though too much for a public domain work IMO).

While not the scholarly edition, it does contain many of the more known works of Edwards, at a non-scholarly price too.

If you are intent on the 26 volume set though, why don't you give this website a browse and see if it is something you would be happy spending $900 on.

That contains all 26 volumes online, for free, along with an additional 43 volumes that aren't in print yet (if ever).

I don't know that anyone could accurately speculate how much the price will increase, just that it will most likely increase. Pre-pub discounts are not as significant as community pricing discounts, but they can still offer some pretty steep cuts compared to the final price of the product. Could the final price be double the pre-pub price? Yes, though usually the difference isn't that great. Every now and then, the pre-pub price turns out to be the final price, though I believe that is usually for more current works. No way of knowing which way it will go with this resource.

This is all great feedback. I didn't realize Christmas Credit was new this year--what a treat! I hope it comes back. I will practically be forced to open my wallet if they reintroduce it.

I did see the two volume abridged works. That may be a good compromise. That's another option to consider. I had discounted it earlier because I see Logos as a platform I can throw a whole bunch of data at, and it will do a great job sifting through what I actually need. So it seemed like getting the abridged volumes would be selling the software short. But when we're talking about significant dollars, that will naturally weigh into the final decision. I suppose getting the 2 volume set now and the larger set later when it can be a more rational and thoughtful decision may be wiser.

Finally, I have seen the Yale works online. There are quite a few places that have theological PD works available for use. That certainly makes it hard to pull the trigger on something of great expense (e.g. Spurgeon). But that defeats two things: 1. Your access to the works is at the whim of the provider (unless you go through the effort to download it all, in which case you could also make your own PB), and 2. You don't get the indexing/searching capabilities of Logos. You have to use Logos and then something else (or multiple somethings if you're wanting to research multiple authors). It's certainly not a bad then when the resource can't be purchased, but it makes the research tougher.
