shortcut bar

I read the tutorial on how to add shortcuts and succeeded with adding from within Logos, however, when I try to drag an icon for Word from my desktop, the cursor remains a circle with a diagonal line going through it. Even when I try to add a shortcut from Explorer, the circle with the diagonal line stays.Did I miss a setting?

I am using Win 7.

You may need to drag it and drop it between other shortcuts on the Shortcut bar first. Then you can rearrange it via drag n drop.

if the above picture is too small, click on the picture and your browser should show it full size (you may need to hit Back in your browser to return to this forum page)

EDIT:

Notice when you go in between existing shortcuts that a vertical bar appears between them and your cursor shows as an arrow.

Yes, that is the page I was referring to. I am able to make shortcuts from within Logos (ESV, and a favorite layout). However, when a try to make a shortcut to a source outside Logos, the cursor remains a circle with a diagonal line through it. It does not allow me to drop it on the shortcut bar. I tried bringing a shortcut from the desktop and from Explorer, but to no avail.

Hmmm, I just did it on my netbook. I clicked once[desktop] on MSWORD icon and then drag/drop to the shortcut bar…..having the L4 minimized so that I did not have to click something else in the process…

It does not allow me to drop it on the shortcut bar.

With my Logos Bible Software 4 window maximized, was able to drag a shortcut from my desktop toolbar (in my task bar) to create a Logos 4 shortcut (using a desktop shortcut: Microsoft Word).

Your experience will vary significantly depending on whether you are using a PC or Mac, and on your screen resolution. There is more room on the shortcut bar in the Mac iteration of L4 than the PC, and icon density at very high resolutions makes it difficult to drag 'n drop a shortcut... or at least "see" it. Human interface... its a slippery thing to grasp sometimes, and multiple platforms and screen resolutions magnify the "well it worked for ME", "I just did it, apparently you're a moron", "just do this, its easy" without the caveats of which platform they are using, etc, etc.

If his system is not allowing the shortcut to be made then it may be as you suggested, but that does not mean that you can insinuate that another is a moron, That's just totally out of line…….I believe that by my own and that of KS4J, that we were clearly stating that it is possible, granted we are using a different OS[possibly], so then there must be something else going on that we are not aware of - - possibly as you suggested.

Sorry you chose to take it that way R4M. My comment was a generalization and not directed at you or even at this particular thread. Actually, the generalization is pointed in the other direction, I.E., of posters who reply to an OP with the attitude that any dimwit should be able to figure it out on their own and not bother the forums with trivial issues. We have more than one member who has indulged in this attitude. In any case, my sincere apologies for giving offense, the intent was to insure that we all clearly articulate answers and responses with germane replies (I.E. naming the platform, and in this case, screen resolution, that applies) and without the demeaning attitude. You'll note the quotes around those particular pseudo-responses, indicating that I was speaking in place those responders that typify the poor (and/or demeaning) responses.... not voicing my own perspectives as though I were calling you names, my brother. Again, I apologize and hope this explanation soothes your hurt at my direct and harsh style of making a point.

Wiki has Mac and PC User Interface Differences => Screen layout that has screen shots showing Mac and PC. On the same size screen, Logos 4 Mac has room for more shortcuts than Logos 4 on Windows.

On a Mac, can drag an Application on top of open Logos 4 Mac window to create a shortcut, which is similar to dragging application to Apple's Dock.

Apologies: no offense intended, only desire to helpfully share experience that creating shortcuts in Logos 4 on Mac and PC to external applications can be done. Hopefully with enough detail to allow replication. Note: the original post for this thread included:

On Windows 7, my Logos Bible Software 4 window is nominally maximized. For more usable screen space, have chosen to hide my task bar (on the left side). Have learned Windows 7 Aero automatically resizes taskbar to the width of start button periodically, so am using a Color Classic scheme, which allows my hidden task bar to be wider (e.g. web brower has icon plus readable page title). My desktop toolbar has 47 icons (mostly Windows shortcuts), which can be dragged to create a shortcut in Logos 4:

Apologies: can drag URL icon from navigation box in Internet Explorer 9 to Logos 4 to create a shortcut with the web page icon. Also tried creating a shortcut from Chrome and Safari, which worked.

Curious about anti-virus program ? Personally using Avast.

I also use Avast. I turned off Aero, and that did not help. As soon as the arrow (from whatever link outside Logos 4) passes onto Logos it turns into that circle with a diagonal line, before that it shows that I am dragging a shortcut link.

Is there a setting I have that is not correct?

Again, I am using Logos 4 (most recent update) on a pc laptop running Win 7 64. I believe Logos is running as an administrator.

Wonder if circle with diagonal line changes when over Logos 4 shortcut bar ?

Noticed dragging onto other parts of Logos 4 window has circle with diagonal line for me.

Again, I am using Logos 4 (most recent update) on a pc laptop running Win 7 64. I believe Logos is running as an administrator.

Personally am using a standard user account to run Logos 4 on 64 bit Windows 7.
