I am curious to know about the profile

First I
would like to ask you humbly to forgive me. Coming from the horn of Africa, I
always wonder when I see deferent things like animals and other things in the profile,
would you please tell me, what this mean instead of having one's own picture? I
am curious to know about it. I would like it if I could hear from every one,
but I think this may be waste of time and not important.
Blessings in Christ

Some people like to stay anonymous. I had my personal picture up, but that was no fun. I think of an avatar as flair. Just a way to spice up the forums. To me it doesn't matter what the picture is, I like avatars because it allows me to easily identify certain posters.
As for all you out there that post your picture, I like it. It almost makes me feel like I'm speaking to you face to face. I guess for me it would actually be face to hand. [:)]

My avatar came about through a series of changes that were comical in nature with other forum members. In other words, there is no more significance then a good laugh in the past.

And yet Philip, Even though I recall your original avatar which was a picture of YOU, I simply recognize you per your current one. Same with Joshua, and so many others.
Of course, if I really want to shake things up, I could go back to the guinea pig.
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Hi, Thomas I laughed about the sentence you have used.

My story is not much different than others - I wanted something I enjoyed, that said something about my attitude toward life. Somehow, Snoopy (of Peanuts fame) said exactly that - or so I hope.
Have fun in choosing your avatar.

My avatar sort of symbolizes who I am or more directly what I love.

Floyd.....I do not understand. Would you tell me what you mean?

I felt so free when I was forced through a disability to walk away from my Computer Science (and its related mathematical tools) career. I was trying to be funny when I said would be praying for your because of your interest in DiffyQue (i.e. Math).
But then I made a commitment to pray for you - with no consideration of your interest in math.

Well, I had been a little old lady lurking in the shadows - bent over with bags filled with actual books, I sure. But I wasn't doing a very good job of lurking so I pulled out a genuine picture of myself - one of my son's favorites. It was taken only a few years before he was born. I was tempted to use my 10-year-old self proudly showing my first heifer. A heifer at 9 was my grandmother's way of putting her grandchildren through college.[:)] If my avatar was larger you could see that she also gave me her Finnish eyes.

My avatar is a picture of me and my son. I use it because I love his smile in this picture.

Since I am incomplete without my Redhead (closing in or 50 years together), I include my Child Bride (she was barely 16) in my avatar.

In mine, you have to have a magnifying glass, but it's the Chapel of the Holy Cross at base of Twin Buttes in Sedona Arizona. Almost as many people visit the Chapel (Catholic) as the Grand Canyon. Our home is on the other side.

Nice pic MJ. I like this one better.

Your grandmother had beautiful Finnish eyes.
My current avatar is the fireworks of the Tanabata festival in Sendai, Japan. It is a folk festival celebrating a tale of star-crossed lovers of different ranks. They were forbidden to marry so they became stars in the night sky and their paths cross at Tanabata time (around July 7th.)
I usually sport a samurai of some sort like Date Masamune. On occasion I might post one of my babies. My rationale is just about anything is a better looking avatar than my mugshot. When my beard reaches my knees, I might post a pic. No promises.

I suspect some of the avatars are like mine -- people or things which are meaningful to the one posting it. Mine is of my mischievous but sweet granddaughter and was taken just a few months ago. Ain't she sweet? (You'd better not say "No" or I'll reach out through the internet and punch you). [:D] [;)]

I appriciate for your explanations,I am glad I haven't seen snakes and pigs, even though there are avatars, which don't make me smile, instead the opposite.

I like to use the Coptic icon of Christ and Abbot Mena (which is the oldest known Coptic icon, by the way) since I very much identify with it - not that I'm a martyr, obviously, but it shows this kind of intimacy and friendship between Christ and Mena that I like to think of as a spiritual paradigm and guide for my own relationship with Christ.

I just happened to change my avatar to a picture of Brother Biddle, my cartoon alter ego of a number of years ago. A few people still remember his antics.

Mine has me holding my most recent grandchild - the 7th in the last 7 years. The reason is obvious.
I am the one in the orange shirt. We do look very much alike.

Sorry to glom on to an old thread, but I don't have my photo as my avatar because I'm as ugly as a mud fence and reluctant to frighten children and impressionable adults.
Besides, I like to remind others that, for certain, unless one is born again, one will not be able to see the kingdom of God.
(I used to have Bear Bryant as my avatar, but that would have little meaning outside the Southeast US.)
