WOW! Logos is going to translate Aquinas' untranslated works!

I saw all 4 posts well before I posted, 2 prepub, 2 twitter. The former are shown as 9 AM Swedish time, which is clearly not when someone hit the button for them, but the latter show up as sent exactly one hour before I type this, which should be correct. I read my feeds in Safari, which I believe only refreshes them once every 30 minutes. If you have something similar, you may have happened to refresh just between the two.

No, wait, I actually had 5 posts. I had the Logos Bible Software for Catholics one on Isaiah as well, but there the Jeremiah one only turned up after I posted.

Good news.  Too bad it doesn't include an English translation of the Lombard...

I imagine it'll come. It would be kind of weird to publish the commentary without the text itself. Since they haven't already put an old translation on CP, I'm guessing they're negotiating with the publisher for the new one, and are keeping the CP option as a backup plan. Since Andrew is himself a medieval historian, he'll probably want the best text he can get, rather than the cheapest one, which is, unfortunately, what Logos usually tends to go for. And whatever edition they end up with it'll go through the publishing process far faster than the translation can be done, so we should have it well in advance.

I just found this information on a blog that seems to have very good connections with Andrew:

"No word yet on who will be doing the translations, but Andrew Jones of Logos (who has completed his dissertation and will earn his PhD in Medieval ecclesiastical history next month) says it “will likely be a team effort. It is a very big project and is going to take some time to raise the money and find the scholars to work on it. As we collect pre-orders, we will nail down more aspects of the project and post more information about it. Aquinas’ commentaries on Jeremiah and Isaiah are much smaller and we will be able to do a lot of the work in house. Louis St. Hilaire, our patristics product manager, and I will work on these. We will then get them reviewed by outside scholars. The translations will be high-quality and accurate, and ultimately I’ll be responsible for the style of translation. ”"

Andrew tells me that they are “starting some major translations projects. We are going to translate Aquinas’s Commentary on the Sentences of Peter Lombard, and his scripture commentaries that are still in Latin only."   (March)
