Rhyme or Reason?

I am perplexed trying to figure out why Logos 4 does not permit the creation of a new note from a selected passage of Scripture if there are any other notes files. This is a huge annoyance, as I would only be able to add to an existing note file from a passage selection, when what I need to do is create a new note. Any insights as to why it has to be this way?

I am unsure what you are asking. Are you trying to create a new note or a new note file?

Actually, I am trying to create a note attached to a selected text passage, but the only option available is to add a note to an existing note file. According to the help file information, one can only do that if there is no existing note file. Can't figure out the logic of this.

The logic is quite simple: most people keep all there notes in a single note file. This may not be what you want, but it's what most people actually do.

I have a single note file for most of my notes, that I have creatively called "My Notes." I use it for almost everything, but I only make small one or two sentence notes, most of the time. Since I leave it open all the time, it's always available for a quick annotation.

I use an external program for in depth studies (usually just MS Word). Having a dual monitor system makes that very easy to do. One of those studies I've built as a PB to have it in Logos, but mostly I find it's not really necessary.

Before right-clicking to add a note, first create a new note file or open the one to which you want to add the note.

I still don't understand. Pardon me if you understand all of this already:

In my screen shot below, to attach a note, you have two choices. You can attach a note to a "selection," which will be resource specific (i.e. the note will only appear in the translation you are currently using). Conversely you can attach the note to "reference," which is tied to the biblical reference. Any versified resource (i.e. Bibles, commentaries, etc) will show the note.

If you want to add the note to a note file that hasn't been used in the resource before, you will have to open the note file first. Once you do that, the name of the note file will appear in the list. In my screen shot, notice the bottom right. Since this resource has notes in it from "Devotional Highlights," I am able to add notes to "Devotional Highlights" without first opening the note file. (Once I add a note, the note file will open up automatically).
