Passage guide offline

I took my newly purchased iPad with all my downloaded resources to the park hoping to get away from a hectic house full of kids and enjoy some quiet study in the peaceful atmosphere of God's creation. Much to my surprise, when I tried to run the passage guide I was promptly informed by the App that I could not run the passage guide offline.

I thought (mistakenly it appears) that purchasing a bigger HD of 64GB to accommodate downloading resources in order to access my library offline was the best option for me. That equation figured in the passage guide to manage a very large library in my study.

Can anyone tell me why the passage guide is not configured to work with downloaded books as opposed to online? Is this something planned for the future? Am I tied to the cloud in other areas I am not aware of.

I am not issuing a complaint. Guess I am seeking information and hoping for a solution on the back end of a purchase I should have researched more thoroughly in the first place. I am hoping that I am not tied to a noisy coffee shop or hectic home to use the passage guide and other features. I guess there is always the library.

Any insight, help, or understanding would be appreciated.

The iPad simply doesn't pack enough computing punch to be used as a desktop without some back-end support.

If you have an iPad with only WiFi as an option don't forget that you can tether your iPhone use the data plan from that. Many of us have spare capacity on our data plans that goes unused month by month.

If you really want 'independent' computing your best bet would be to sell the iPad while prices are still high and buy an Air.

Kenneth - As Mike implied, the mobile device is not powerful enough… Think about it this way: How large is Logos 4 on your computer? Think about the resources, program, index, etc. In my case, its 16 GB (I have platinum). The index is what allows the search results to be accurate… but its quite large.

To work around the limitations of the device, Logos works "from the cloud." The "heavy lifting" is done on their servers, and delivered to you on your device. By the way, the iPad is really designed to serve up data from the cloud in the first place, which is why Apple hasn't released a larger drive than 64 GB in the history of their touch devices. [They WILL do so at some point… but at this point Apple doesn't feel the need to do so].

To answer your question about other limitations… When offline, you can access your downloaded books, take notes & highlight. With the soon-to-be released 2.1, you will be able to accesses your reading plan (if you can't already now). Things like passage guides, original language work, searching your entire library, etc. require an internet connection.

Thanks for clarifying things a bit for me. I have a laptop but got the iPad for greater portability. I am a little disappointed by the need to have wifi to use the PG but my priority resources can be called readily. Not an ideal solution but I think I may use the tether option occasionally. Have to look into cost. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan with Verizon but I think there is a 15 dollar monthly charge for tethering. Again, thanks for the insight.

Thankful can highlight a word in a resource and search while offline. Thankful for Vyrso 2.1.0 ability to lookup words while offline.

Big issue, not being able to use the PG offline…..but I'm encouraged by your humility in dealing with it. Keep up the good work.
