Indexing not starting

With the latest service release I can finally install Logos properly on my work PC as it detects and uses the proxy server properly. Thank you!

Logos 4 has installed and downloaded whatever it needed but I see no signs of indexing starting. There is no icon in the tray and Logos4Indexer is not in the process list.

I tried doing a search in Logos and it said 'Some search results may be missing or incorrect while your library is being indexed' but I see no signs of indexing?

Is it normal to have to wait (almost 1 hour now) for the indexer to start?

Already tried that - no joy.

I'm using the basic engine installer as I don't have a base product. Although the latest patch to Logos4 detects proxy settings, the engine installer does not, so I had to use a mobile phone as a modem to do the basic install. This then runs Logos4 and prompted me to log in. As the bigger downloads would then start, I declined to log in until I had disconnected the mobile phone and reconnected to the network.

Logos4 then said it had 500+ megs to download but it certainly did not do that as it took just a few seconds to 'complete'

When I run Logos4 there are no help files available but it claims to be up to date.

The indexing stubbornly refuses to start, even when I have deleted the index folder and restarted Logos4 (as suggested in another thread).

I will try yet another reinstall at lunchtime. Logos4 has been an utter nightmare for me - I cannot persuade it connect to the Internet on my home PC - after a lot of fiddling with its configuration file to turn on logging (I'm an IT professional) I was able to get it to report a TCP Error 10045 was occurring. One of the Logos developers is looking into this, but no resolutions have been forthcoming.

If you have Libronix v3 (L3) installed and working on ANY computer then install & start L4 whilst holding CTRL key and select offline use. Type scan <L3 resource folder> in the Command bar and then restart L4. NB if you find the install files in the Logos4 folder, you won't need a download.

If you can get it on one I can tell you how to get it on another!

Are you saying you have a way for me to activate Logos4 on my home PC without going to the internet and logging Logos on? If you know a way to do that I would be very interested as it currently refuses to do so...

As a last resort you might try Update Resources in the command bar, but it will take several minutes to analyze your resources and licences before hopefully initiating a download!

What I did was: uninstall everything. Reinstall using Logos4Setup.exe and my mobile phone as a modem downloaded some 24MB of files.

I then ran Logos4 and logged in - using my ordinary network connection. It said it was downloading several hundred megs of files but it did not do thart - the download was way too fast!

After that I followed your advice and told Logos4 to scan my Logo3 resources and restarted Logos. After a short delay they all appeared. I think they are all there apart from my PBB's (which I knew about). I'm not sure which plugins to expect to be there or not...

Currently Logos4 is still indexing my resources. Thankfully, I have no reverse interlinears - I have a few Bibles, some interlinears, several Greek Lexicons, 2 Hebrew lexicons and some Greek Grammars. The indexer is reporting 10 minutes to go, which seems ok. But I don't have that many resources.

I could then try the Update Resources command - it's worth a go, i think as Logos4 does seem to be able to use my work's Internet connection...

My home situation is such that Logos4 has stubbornly refused to connect to the internet. Short of a full Windows Vista reinstall (which is a step too far for me to go at the moment) I have tried everything. I've disabled firewall and AV programs. Uninstalled and reinstalled them. Uninstalled and reinstalled .NET. I've checked every service to makes sure they are running properly. No matter what I do Logos4 will not connect - always a TCP error 10045. Not that Logos4 reports that - but with .NET's debug logging turned on, that's the message I get. I've Googled this and tried every suggestion - no joy.

I have asked support for my licence file (over a week ago) but all I got was the 'Please wait' email reply. That tells me they are probably beseiged with all sorts of support requests and I suppose I must wait my turn.

From the many posts on these forums I do feel this release was 1) rushed and 2) poorly documented. I develop software for a living and have never ever been in this situation before. OK, I know the engine is (for me) a free update. But that's what Logos promised when I started buying their software...

I am now doing an Update Resources and Logos says it's downloading 384 megs and the download speed now is what I'd expect. Looks like, on my work PC, I will get there using the 'scenic route' :-)

Andy, I think this is supposed to have been fixed in SR6 (You can see which version you're on by clicking the help > about.

Hi Andy,

Did the small blue Logos icon on the right side of the Windows Taskbar disappear completely? If it is still there, try right clicking on it to see if the option to either Restart Logos or Install Updates is available. If the icon isn't there at all even for Indexing, we should probably get log files. To turn on logging, close Logos, then hold the Ctrl key down as you double-click the shortcut to reopen the program, and keep it held down until the Sign In window appears. Click on Sign In. This will enable logging just for that session. When Logos opens, try the Update Resources command again and wait for the download. If it quits without updating, attach the resulting log files in \Documents\Logos Log Files to this thread.

I've tried this 3 times - no log file or log file folder produced...

Yes, the small blue icon disappeared. It reported that it was downloading the data - but the progress was way too fast for it to be doing so. I'm going to call it a day now. I can live without the help files on my work PC. A much bigger need is to get my home PC up and running with Logos4... See earlier in this thread for details.

my work PC is working sans help files and I can either live without them or try to copy them across as per another thread on this forum.

My problem was due to the Parental Controls I had installed.

As yet, the only resolution is to uninstall the patental controls, but Vista's built in ones are probably good enough.

The problems with my work PC are more due to the Proxy server configuration restricting download sizes than a fault within Logos4, although I would dearly love to see Logos4 have the ability to choose to download a resource or not, like Logos3 has. Maybe later...

In this case, the parental controls were crippling the TCP/IP .NET services on the PC. I had to get Dad to uninstall the controls before I could connect. :-)
