Question on Faithlife Study Bible link - correct?

I was reading through Hebrews 13:5, and I noticed the links to Gen28:15 LXX, Deut 31:6 LXX, and Josh 1:5 LXX on the phrase "I will never abandon you":

Am I wrong or should this be an LXX link (all three) and not a default Bible link?

I am not sure what u’r ‘default’ Bible is, but the verse(s) given are a slight off-hand: they should be Josh 1:5 and Deut 31:6,8 the Gen 28.15 doesn't fit.......is u'r default the LXX? [I wasn't aware that the LXX did the NT/?]

Not sure I understand your comment - Why doesn't Gen 28:15 fit? It says "I will keep you wherever you go" in ESV, other versions say I will protect you...and what do you mean by LXX doing the NT (it does not) - I am referring to the links for Josh, Deut and Gen that have LXX after them.

Hi Dominick.

I see that there are LXX links associated with references against verses 6 & 9 as well.

My guess is that the LXX link is a mistake and shouldn't be included. It doesn't really seem to add anything here.

First off, I would not use the FSB as a default, only because it is slightly defunct, as you graciously pointed out.

Thanks for quoting me in that I said "I am not sure what u'r 'default Bible is" but I can see that it is the FSB from u'r pic.

Also, would you be so kind as to demonstrate for me how it fits w/Josh and Deut and also include Heb....The ESV and NET and many others do not refer to Gen in their notes for Heb 13.5........I am fully aware that the LXX does not include the NT, but it would appear from your opening post, without you saying what u'r default Bible was, it gives the impression that it was the LXX....

And I still do not see "two footnotes" that you say you are seeing......are you calling the hyperlinks footnotes?

Thanks. FSB is not my default Bible, not sure why you concluded it was. I was just looking at FSB because of the Septuagint remark. It seems to indicate maybe a match in Greek vocbulary between this verse in Hebrews and LXX in Gen, Deu, Josh.

As far as I've been able to find out there is no way to link specifically to the LXX, unless you link to a particular LXX -- which doesn't help much as the reader may not have that particular LXX.

This is the same problem that I ran into with PB tag to LXX?.

I really thought I had made a Suggestion about this, but I can't seem to find one.

I wouldn't expect the FSB to link directly to a Greek resource; that seems inappropriate for the intended audience. (And would be fairly useless in the Faithlife app, which doesn't come with a LXX by default.)

However, I agree that the repeated "LXX" links are confusing, and are outright wrong in the note on Heb 13:9, where it links to Jer 31:33 LXX (i.e., Jer 48:33 English) but it seems that Jer 31:33 (English) was intended. I will pass this feedback on to the editors.

Following the rules of my personal logic, this implies that Logos must offer the NETS translation immediately - the obvious solution to this complex problem.[:D][Y]

Who mentioned Greek? There are English LXX's, like Brenton (and NETS, and Orthodox Bibles).

If you read my link above, you'll see that what want/need is a way to tag a PB so that the popup shows the user's highest prioritized LXX. In the same way I would wish that Logos resources where the author specifically references the LXX and not the Masoretic text were linked to the highest prioritized LXX and not to the highest prioritized Bible of any category, which gives a popup that shows something other than what the author is talking about.

I agree with your suggestion, but I can't say that I'm too impressed with your logic, and it wouldn't solve this problem. A resource link only works if people have the resource, and even if we do get NETS there are still going to be fewer people having it than have Brenton. We need reference links to the subcategory of 'LXX Bibles' (they should of course automatically redirect to the user's normal Bible if no LXX is found).

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We went ahead and
programmatically removed all biblical citations to the Septuagint in Faithlife
Study Bible. This update has already “gone live,” so as long as you have the
current version of FSB, they should no longer appear in your note text. Thanks for the feedback!
