Potential Indexer Problem

When comparing Desktop with Laptop I noticed that the former had more Basic Search (all text) results for "God" & also for "you". I narrowed the difference down to Bibles only, then to non-bible text and finally to text in footnotes as follows:-

Basic Search, All Text, "God" Desktop Laptop

Figure in [...] is the common result for Bible Text.

Versions of resources are the same on both systems.

Comparing Matt 16:22 I see that the Laptop index ignores the footnote in the English Literal line and ignores the 992 footnotes for "singular" in the Lexical Value line. As the Desktop was fully indexed when I re-installed version 4.5b on 30 April, the Laptop somehow missed out. Comments, please ...

Text not being indexed in footnotes on interlinear lines is probably due to this bug, which was fixed in 4.5: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/39776.aspx. Since the LGNTI was last updated on 21/7/2010, it was probably indexed on your system before 4.5 shipped and hasn't been reindexed since then. (We decided that the problem wasn't serious enough to automatically reindex everyone's libraries after upgrading to 4.5.)

We fixed another minor footnote indexing bug in 4.5c (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/46602.aspx); my search for footnote:God in LGNTI returns 30 results (results are attached if you want to compare to your desktop to see what's new).

Since the LGNTI was last updated on 21/7/2010, it was probably indexed on your system before 4.5 shipped and hasn't been reindexed since then.

That could be right and LHI (8/8/2011) would have been indexed by v 4.3, before the problem was discovered in Oct 2011. I don't re-index the laptop unless absolutely necessary, so it can wait for 4.5c Gold.

I have to disagree. If it affects a search for "God" it is serious[:)]

It's the same once I use "Match all word forms" to get the other 3 hits for "gods" "god's"!

We fixed another minor footnote indexing bug in 4.5c (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/46602.aspx);

Could be more than minor! Whilst the spurious Matt 4:4 result in UBS4 has been removed and reduced the verse count, the number of results is the same -> 5685/2236 vs 5685/2237 for v4.5b. I narrowed the difference to Matt 4 where v15 has 2 extra results:-

The last pair of Matt 4:15 was missed in 4.5b!

Spurious and latent results could be fixed for other searches, so I think you should recommend users to re-index when 4.5c goes "Gold", especially if they haven't done so this year (4.5 was released Jan 24).

Full index takes a long time. MAYBE solve this by REQUESTING that all users reindex their system soon [with instructions in the release notes]

Doing an automatic reindex forces the user to wait NOW. Requesting that the user do it allows them to pick the time [like over night on a week day]

[Yes, I do know that you can put off the indexing for four hours]

This is my intention (previous post) for the changes to the Indexer in 4.5c and users will also have missed indexing for footnotes in Interlinears (my first post) if they have not re-indexed since v4.5 was released in January this year.

Full index takes a long time.

Note that the developers claim up to 30% faster indexing with 4.5c and I achieved a saving of nearly 20% with 960 resources!
