DATA LOSS BUG: New install did not sync everything

I did a new install to a new laptop using method #3 in the Wiki, and so far I have found two resources do not have tags that are assigned to them on my other two computers, and those same two resources do not have ratings. I was doing this side by side with old and new laptop, high speed LAN, no errors reported or anything unusual occurring. I did this work about a day and a half ago so I doubt logs are helpful anymore (plus not turned on, on the new computer yet lol).

So now I am worried that other settings have not been properly sync'd. Is there a way to reset the sync process so I can be more assured that everything was properly sync'd? Or a way to see what else was not properly sync'd?

Wow this is really bad - sync did not complete at all. As a test, on my original two computers I checked my library for "Mytag:=A", to see how many resources had an A in them. Both had 2,212. On the new laptop, it's 1,971! Horrible!

What can I do to resync?

I used rating:>=0 ANDNOT mytag:*, and 701 resources did not have their tags sync'd.

OK, I uninstalled and rebuilt Logos using Method #2, and so far the only problem I have found is 24 resources have lost their Tag. I am not eactly sure if there is a way to find which 24 though!

I found the missing collection tag (I tag all my purchases with the Collection name if it's a collection), it was the 24 volume SIL Exegetical Summaries Series.

Be very careful - this is scary that not all data syncs. Check you data thoroughly. I have an ill-founded hunch that the Method 3 did so badly because the use of Scan: while syncs are being done for a very large library has some sort of timing or synchronization problem, and stuff just gets lost. Very bad if true. But Method #3 worked a whole lot better than Method #2, which was still not completely correct.

I'll post if I find any more data errors

Hi Dominick,

i've run into similar situations before. It is a little scarier for me since i only have one computer.

Tommy Ball helped me fix a similar problem with the cloud just a week or so ago. His solution was to close L4 and then in windows explorer to navigate to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Logos4\ and rename the Documents folder to something like (Documents Old). Then restart L4. L4 then pulled all my stuff off the cloud. It worked and fixed my problem.

Provided you have a baseline for all/important mytag: values from the previous installation you can determine which ones lost their tag. Ditto for metadata, which was problematic until Logos fixed it recently. Here's my baseline:-

mytag:unread [67]
type:commentary [300]

type:dictionary [4]
type:lexicon [23]
type:encyclopedia [31]
type:concordance [9]
type:monograph [427]
rating:0 [325]

I copy and paste the whole string e.g. rating:0 [325] in the Library Find box as you can directly compare the counts!

I did a Method 2 with 4.6 beta 2 weeks ago and everything was restored (I also baseline my documents by number).

David question - this is in fact what I did manually, since I still had my old good computer to compare with. Do you just create this list manually or is there an automated way to do it? I assume it's manual...?

Manual. It helps me track metadata changes as well as test a reinstallation.
