for Everyone - NT Wright - clear historically based and coherent approach to the bible.
New Testament Commentary - William Hendriksen, Simon J. Kistemaker - Simple clear and helpful
Africa Bible Commentary by Tokunboh Adeyemo - provides a new slant on many things
It is hard to say what is "intermediate". What is intermediate for someone with seminary and original language study would be advanced for someone who didn't have that opportunity. So this has to be rather subjective.
In my opinion the best intermediate commentaries are:
1. Tyndale - hands down.
2. NIV Application Commentaries
3. Cornerstone
4. The "For Everyone Commentaries" by N. T. Wright
5. Preachers' Commentary
1. Expositor's Bible Commentary
2. Tyndale
3. NIVAC
All the previous are good suggestions, I would add the UBS Handbook series, I find it useful because it is aimed at translators and because of this often has some extra insights into how a particular phrase or concept needs to be explained.
1. Tyndale - Because it is Tyndale
2. BECNT - Filled with good scholars
3. NAC - Can't really say why, but it has always been there.
4. Luther's Works - Because it is Luther
5. UBS Handbook - Interesting series with some language.
These are second level commentaries for me when I consult commentary. They are not necessarily my favorite, just my top Intermediates.
