No Functions at all

Installed original mac software and about 80% through downloading resources power was lost on the computer. Upon restart it never re-started although the program did seem to work. Un-installed and res-instaled several times without ever having the indexing and download re-start. On the advice of tech support we deleted all of the resources and did a re-install still no luck. This past weekend I downloaded the latest alpha and now nothing functions, not menu selections, the only place I can go is my library, it seems all my resources are listed, but when you go to one it gives you the overview with no content and the message "resource missing". Passage guide, exigetical, and home do not work. Is there anyway to completely re-install . . . . HELP!

A few thought I have.

When you lost power it sounds like a problem generated outside of the Logos App and inside the OS somewhere. On a PC side it would be something like a corrupt .DLL file, not applicable to Mac though. If this is the case, it might require a trip to a Mac Store/Genius Bar.

Mac Logos 1.2.2 and Alpha 3 are two separate programs. I am confused as to which you are having the problem with. It sounds like Mac 1 is where you had the initial problem, but it worked. Alpha was installed and nothing works.

Re-install Logos Mac 1.2.2 and then make sure you sync your library. That may be the key, at least I didn't see you mention that in your post.

Of course, I could be completely wrong, it happens often. While I started using a Macintosh back in the late 80s, I went PC and just recently came back to Mac a little over a year ago.

Sorry when I say original software I mean the Mac 4 that was offered with windows Logos 4 at launch.

Did re-download original software and re-installed

You mention SYNC but I see nowhere to do that in the software

Logos 4 Alpha isn't very functional at the moment, but it sounds as though you should have more functionality than you do.

Try deleting this file in your user folder

/Library/Preferences/com.logos.Logos4Indexer.plist

and then restart your computer.

Hopefully, when you restart Logos 4 Alpha for Mac it will force a re-index of your resources, which might fix your problem.

You could also check this folder in your user folder:

/Library/Application Support/Logos4

Check the size of the subfolder called Data - it should be large, because inside that is where your resources are. Mine, for example, is about 8GB. If it isn't at least a few hundred MB I'd say your resources are missing and need to be redownloaded.

If that is the case I'd remove the folder above ([user]/Library/Application Support/Logos4), reboot the computer, and it should force a download of the resources. Best not to interrupt the power this time!

I hope this helps - it did for me when I had a similar problem.

However, the thing with unstable software (which this Alpha is, because it is still in very early development) is that it is full of errors, bugs and incompatibilities with operating environments. Usually end users are advised against installing and using Alpha builds because of the inherent instability it causes. Logos are taking a different approach, which brings its own challenges. However, my general advice would be that unless you're happy to work with buggy software wait until the Beta builds or at least a much later Alpha. Some people on these forums are having similar issues to you, which I expect is no real solution for you - but at least you're not alone!

That is because Logos 4 in both Mac and PC sync automatically. Even though we cannot use many of the features in the Mac Alpha, all of your setting you make in the Windows 4 version are carried over to the Mac Alpha.

Hi Colin,

I did everything you suggested and it worked perfectly. The data was actually there but for some reason it was not being accessed . . . the resource download took about 5 hours (9 gigs) . . . the indexing took a good 18 to 20 hours. Thanks for your help I hope this helps other users as well.

Still not many things working but I am assuming this is because of the building stage we are at not malfunctions

I still can't believe how long indexing took on my Mac compared to my PC! It was unreal. I can only hope that in the long run the Mac version will work quicker than the PC.[:)]
