Anyone using 3rd Gen iCore Processors with HD4000 graphics

I'm happy to say that I now might be able to replace one of my geriatric machines with a new one. I'm wondering if the 3rd Gen HD4000 graphics will suffice with Logos 4 without a separate card. The laptop I'm looking at has a 3rd Generation i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM and comes with Win 7 Pro 64bit. Everything I've read so far seems to indicate this should be at least sufficient if not a world beater.

I am very pleased with this setup. It's not a speed demon, but it runs L4 well. I seldom use notes, so I can't really say about the problem people have with slow performance on large note files.

I also have the HD3000 graphics and I find Logos runs great. HD4000 had better be better than HD3000.

Just for comparison, I have the i7 2620M with the same specs otherwise (a bit fast CPU of course). But if you look at Gary's EI, mine is 6.3 under graphics (quite a bit better). So given Logos' potential for future video demands you might at least think about the video score (not disagreeing with the other folks that commented).

On the other hand, on the same panel that shows the Windows Experience index there's an 'Adjust Video Effects' choice. If you click on that and then set it for video performance, it REALLY puts Logos4 into HIGH GEAR for the display (I don't use Windows Aero anyway). It unchecks all the Windows cutsie stuff; you can then go back and selectively put back the ones you value. I kept the 'Smooth Edges of Screen Fonts' which doesn't appear to impact Logos but does make my Opera browser blazingly stark.

have only used Logos4 on two computers so far.

My
first experience with Logos was on a Toshiba Net book with an atom
processor. Logos, ran and never crashed on my but it was a bit slow. Here
is my current LabTop set up, like the poster above this is no speed
demon! But, it gets the job done and it is much, much, much faster
than my net-book.

The features I have notice that have improved the most are: indexing, running queries, and the passage guide. Logos4 is now much more enjoyable to use.

I, think the two most important features you should look for in a computer for Logos4 are CPU and Video Card. If, you have a chance to look at some of Logos4 faster rivals and you will notice something very different about Logos; The fonts. Logos4 renders fonts much like a PDF does. Logos4 is far easier on my eyes and looks and feels like I reading a printed page because Logos4 fonts. I believe this maybe why Logos4 is so much slower than the other boys&Gals on the market. Also, .net and WPF may have something to do with the speed issue, too.

Having. said that go with a 3rd gen CPU they're great!

I have a Thinkpad with a 2.5ghz i5 and the HD 4000 works fine for logos. This laptop has an Nvidia 5400m card as well but the difference small (about 15% faster scrolling speed). On the HD4000 the computer runs cooler and quieter. I don't do a lot of complicated notes but logos keeps up with my admittedly poor typing. As far as speed, on a layout with three linked bibles and two unlinked commentaries scrolling through 2 Cor in esv takes about 26 seconds with the Nvidia card and 31 seconds with the HD4000 (I also like the text quality with the HD4000 better but that is subjective) searching for the word and with a library of a little over 8000 resources takes 19.6 seconds. I have a 5400rpm hard drive so a faster drive or an SSD would probably improve these numbers but I pretty happy with speed on an I5 with the HD 4000 graphics.

Sounds good. I'm still debating the laptop versus another desktop box which can readily take a graphics card should I desire to get one or transplant the one I have now in my old machine. The laptop would be more useful to me at the moment.
