4.6a beta 3 (PC) Questions: Video Books in Logos 4

First thank you for working on moving this over to Logos 4. One of my annonyances in terms of missing features in L4 is finally being addressed.

1. At this point I am assuming only the Greatest Book Video Series has been updated to the new video format and made available to users ? I have a number of the Cross-TV video books also in L3 which I haven't yet seen download into L4.

2. In L3 the video books included different transition points in the table of contents for each new 'section' in the video. This does not appear to be the case in L4. Will this be done at a later date or is this 'as good as it gets' in L4.

In having the video sections in the table of contents in L3, one was able to run a search in L3 that included these books and hits would return on those 'chapter' markers including the time at which that segment started in the video.

This leads into my next question.

3. What sort of hits should we expect, if any, from searches that included these resources. For instance, will I currently get, or at some point in the future can I expect to get search results like the illustration above from L3 ?

4. .From the circled Resource Panel menu options circled below it appears videos stream over the next unless you specifically download them locally. Is this correct ?

I can't say for sure exactly which products have been fully tested and released but I do know that we are actively working on getting all of the L3 video products converted.

Chapter (table of contents) handling is something we have not yet been able to supply in current video support. If/When this support is added it will be a small update to add the contents entries for videos.

In the current video/product implementation I believe that video resources will not have a lot of search matching. I would expect this to change If/When chapter points are added to videos.

In Windows 7 and later the videos are streamed and stored locally as you play them. This allows you to play them back later without an internet connection. The Download menu items you highlighted are a convenient way to download the video for later playback while you will be away from the internet.

Thanks Ryan for getting back to me. I appreciate you are personally not in a position to commit on some of these things but it would be nice to have a more definite commitment from Logos on some of the things I raised, particularly around searching since as a customer this was one of the selling points of these products and for Logos to not commit to maintain the basis on which they originally sold the product is disappointing. I am not asking for a date commitment because I know that is not realistic to make such a commitment. But to not know at this point if they intend to downgrade the product from what was originally sold it would be good if they could be more committed on that point one way or the other.

The other point of concern is that you don't seem to be in a position to advise whether or not any other products have been converted. I wouldn't expect a time table to be provided but surely someone has the answer to what has already been completed and that information should be available to support staff dealing with customers who are going to be asking these questions. If this is the only product then that's fine. Given the fact we had to have these products re-activated in our accounts before they would download really leaves the customer like a mushroom because product could be released at some point, but unless it is well communicated internally at Logos, which appears to be the case, then there is little chance the customer is going to know about it either and be able to ensure the revised product is actually reactivated in their account so they can received it and use it within Logos 4.

I'm sure this information is available to Customer Support staff. But I'm the developer who worked on Video resource support for Logos4 not CS. So I don't know where that information is available internally. I know we've converted many of the resources (because I was involved in that process) but I don't know where they are in the process (because I'm not involved in that process). [:D]

Thanks Ryan for clarifying your role. I do appreciate you taking the time to respond, even if you don't have all of the answers I want. When I'm wearing my customer that it fits pretty tight and I do expect high standards from Logos because I believe they are good company that does strive for providing a high level of customer service, so I do uphold them to that standard. And I go get this stuff is technically in beta stage - which I think is the best stage for Logos to get the customer service handling issue right. It's to late once it goes Gold to then start worry about getting CS right.
