Logos 5 Content

I am confused. Is the content of the individual books in Logos 5 different from the content of the same books in 4? If I want to make use of the new features in Logos 5 do I have to buy Logos 5 compatible duplicates to books I already own? That seems to be what the upgrade offers indicate. All I want is the program. I would not be interested in repurchasing my entire library because Logos has added new tags to the content of the books.

Most of the individual resources have not changed at all. There are some resources that have been tagged and updated to accomodate the new datasets but that is mostly under the hood and not visible.

You are not buying the same resources again. The upgrade price is for the resources that would be new to you and the new databases

The most important response to your query is this: Logos will not charge you for the same book twice [:D]

The base package have been significantly revised (i.e. they contain a different configuration of books). This may explain why your upgrade/crossgrade price is maybe higher than you expected. Some of the content of the books may have been updated. You will not be charged for this. This is one of the benefits of the Logos platform. I understand that some of the databases and tools unique to L5 are tied to particular resources. This explains why some features are only available in the higher packagers.

Again, most importantly, Logos will not charge you for the same book twice [:D]

Hey Joseph!

The content of the base packages has some overlap, but much is different. If you already own a base package, you will keep those resources. Purchasing a new base package, you will be charged for the NEW resources. If all you want is the software, without new resources or features, you will need to wait until Logos releases the L5 engine (for free).

Joseph, you need to read the other threads about this but:-

you only pay for new resources (all that you own are retained and not included in the upgrade price)
The content and the package names are confusing cf. L4, so you need to look at the content and L5 databases and features that are offered
Look at upgrading to L5 Gold for all L5 databases/features
Upgrade to L5 Silver for all but one of the L5 databases (the Bible Sense Lexicon is missable IMHO)
Wait for the minimal Crossgrade offer if any of these options are too expensive.

It is thus deceiving to claim that it is new content in my library when I own all from 1975-2011 and simply am missing issues from 2012.

Gold is supposed to also give you all ten data sets. In the comparison page, only 9 are mentioned at the bottom of the page....and there it also suggests that they can be purchased separately, though another thread has informed us that they cannot be purchased separately.

Lots of confusion that could have been and should have been avoided.

No. it claims that there is licenced content in the Gold package regarding Themelios that is new to you, This is true and it is not "deceiving", but a simple fact.

It could be a bit more helpful in discerning between resources/bundles that are fully new and others where you own a large portion of it - this is something that has been suggested and may someday come with an update to the website.

However, as has been explained by Logos personnel in this forum more than once, the dynamic calculator takes your partial ownership of the bundle into account, thus your upgrade price will be a tad different than those of someone who has the 100% same library as you minus your 1975-2011 Themelios.

I have looked enough to understand what you wrote. And we both seem to understand the same thing. But I still say it is deceiving. It is easy to write somewhere on the comparison site explaining that you may own something like 99% of a resource such as Themelios. But if there are now more resources in that package, it is going to show up as new resources. There are simple ways to take away confusion. Sometimes those ways are overlooked. Sometimes they are done purposefully. I am not making a statement about Logos. Just making a factual statement. These forums are read by Logos employees and thus they can learn from the feedback they receive here and make decisions to implement the feedback or not.

The fact: When I look at the tables that tells me new content, I do not expect to see as new something I already have. If there are updates to a resource, then a note should clearly be available on the comparison site that spells that out for me.

Once again, I am not trying to be negative. To be honest, I have a reason to try to provide constructive criticism that will clear up confusion.

Several posts from Logos since yesterday have indicated they were discussing ways to eliminate the confusion over the issue of partial ownership.

These forums are read by Logos employees and thus they can learn from the feedback they receive here and make decisions to implement the feedback or not.

They are active in the forums and have intentionally been more active since yesterday. I think it is clear (from the posts made by a number of Logos employees, including Bob Pritchett, that they are reading and responding to all of the feedback

I will admit the new upgrade page took me a while to figure out. I also think that constructive criticism is useful and welcomed by Bob and his team
