Help - Logos5 is crashing

Raymond I don't see all the usual files in the zipped logs file you attached.

In your uploaded file there is LogosCrash.txt + LogosError.log + LogosIndexer.log it is missing the Logos.log file. Can you check for that and upload it. Also you need to get the file (and upload it) before restarting Logos so it has all the current crash information in it.

What I can see from the logs you have already uploaded is that there is a problem with one of the Logos database files.

Also, just some extra info, your free disk space on your computer is getting a little low, only 165 MB left. That's not critical, but more free space would be better.

165 thousand MB is about the same as 158GB so they do match and it isn't a problem

That was what was needed thanks, I see you ran it again about hour and a half after previous crash, it's OK because there is one complete set of logs.

What to do in terms of least drastic onwards:

You can try starting Logos without loading layouts/some documents by (on the Mac pressing and holding [Command] key, for Windows will likely be the [Alt] key?) after double clicking Logos icon to start it. So tick 'Use blank layout' in sign in screen (screenshot below).

You might also in the logon window that comes up in previous option choose 'Work Offline'

If those options don't work you may need to rebuild the index database, that is something I would check with Logos support about.

Tried this. The same result. Logos crashes during the startup melody.

The log files provide information but without knowing the internals of the system the information can sometimes be obtuse.

What looks pretty clear cut is that at this point loading the application...

...things go bad. The application appears to be doing a query looking for data where 'rating' equals a value. Unfortunately the log does not say (well I can't see it) specifically which database it is working on at the time of the crash. It appears that it may be a database called 'LibraryCatalogIndex' or, the index of 'LibraryCatalog'. But there are no databases called 'LibraryCatalogIndex.db' on my system (Mac) or listed as having been opened in your log file.

I have looked at the database fields for database tables inside those databases but find no field called 'rating', there are ones called 'UserRating'.

At this stage I am stuck — sorry can help any further. It is too a point where you need to check with Logos technical support, I could tell you to do things which would be at database level but at that level (without specific info) you really need to be taking instruction from Logos technical staff.

Can you let us know what the result is/what they advise so we can know for next time if someone has similar problem — with same query/database.

This is the index located at C:\Users\Raymond\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\nmhnvkig.ni1\LibraryCatalog\ i.e all the files EXCEPT for catalog.db. So you (Raymond) could delete those 6 files (NOT 2x catalog.db), restart Logos and it should recreate the index.

I note that you are running Windows 7, and I'm surprised that .NET 4.5 appears to have installed as it supposedly requires Win 7 SP1. Is there a reason you are not on SP1?

An index has specific files as with the familiar \LibraryIndex and \BibleIndex and also the Documents index at \Documents (within the parent \Documents folder). Catalog.db has all resource information, including user ratings. The LibraryCatalog in \Documents only has Sync information.

Just to close this off as I want to understand more, and the Logos log files don't make things totally clear.

Using an SQLite utility I looked at both the LibaryCatalog.db (in Data folder) and LibraryCatalogSync.db (in Documents folder) both of them have a field called 'UserRating', not 'rating'. So trying to find field in database to match against what the logs say 'Info LibraryCatalogIndex Searching for all records matching: rating:=1 OR rating:=2' is difficult.

Also using terminology like 'LibraryCatalogIndex' makes it difficult because that database has 27 indexes and there is no file — database or index — named 'LibraryCatalogIndex'. So when the logs say 'Libronix.SearchEngine.CorruptIndexException: Error getting maximum term ID' it would be helpful if they said specifically which of the 27 indexes had a problem.

This tool (screenshot below) helpfully has facility to rebuild an index, which might be more surgical then deleting all files other than the database because that also means the lock & journaling files.

Anyway just curious to get more understanding so any help given in future can be more beneficial.

I am so thankful for you guys who always help on the forum. And when Logos is not working I understand how dependant I am on this fantastic software (I did not say addicted...:) ). Now I am able to use Logos to prepare this weeks sermon. Thanks!

Logos makes reference to Index items in a logical sense rather than physical e.g. "document index" at '...\Logos4\Documents\xyz123\Documents/documents'. LibraryCatalogIndex has to be understood similarly. In general an 'index' refers to the 6 non-database files (*.idx, *.lxn, etc.) in a related folder e.g. the LibraryCatalog folder.
