Day 12 of the 12 days of Xmas 2012

The Anchor Yale Bible with an 11% discount over the normal Logos price.
I'm underwhelmed by the percentage, but intuitively wondering if the licensing and production costs of a massive item like the AYB collection make steeper discounts impractical. In other words, is the Logos AYB perhaps already a phenomenal bargain?
Obviously Logos will never sell as many copies of a work like this as the will collections by the likes of Lucado, Piper, Stanley, MacArthur, and so on. So perhaps the 11% discount is really quite good, albeit far less percentage wise than other items. In the past, only libraries could afford collections like this, which is what drove up the prices. The same for those myriads of books from T. & T. Clark, for example. Small market equals higher price to cover production/etc.

In answer to your first question, try pricing AYB out absent Logos. My (unsubstantiated) theory is the Logos has an older contract AY might wish would expire.
But last year I got AYB at 25% or so off (the credit sale where a 30% credit translated to about 25% off).
Having used it a year, it's very much a plus/minus commentary ... some really good, some you have to wonder what David was thinking in selecting the author.

One of my biggest regrets in my years of purchasing Logos resources was not buying AYB on prepub. I just couldn't swing it at the time. I don't recall of AYB ever going on sale before. Maybe it has, but it is certainly not frequent. So if you want it, this is probably the best deal for a while.

It's $10 less on the 'Customize' page.

If you want me to erase that comment, I will! I only mention David Freedman because I'm 'still' trying to get through the 1995 book in honor of him (with many/most of the contributors being in the AYB fold).
I really don't remember which volumes (I'm not a 'book' study-er; I bounce around badly). But when the author kind of re-gurgitates the text, I hit the 'arrow-key' ('Next!').
I only notice it since AYB is my favorite, so I'm none to happy, if an author's telling me what I can easily see.

Oh, okay. I asked because I'm seriously considering picking it up. I don't really care of the commentaries on Malachi or Philemon are a little weak, but if the commentaries on the more important books aren't up to snuff then I'm not going to be too happy about it.

You might take a look at the best commentaries site on this series: http://www.bestcommentaries.com/series/anchor-bible-ab/ The site is biased in reviews towards those by evangelicals, but it can give you a feel for the good and weak ones.

They really need to break up this set. 83 volumes is just too much to buy at once, and 8 of the volumes are from the Apocrypha, which is superfluous for Protestants.
Here's hoping that Logos breaks up the set, and breaks off the Apocryphal volumes into a separate set.

Somehow I missed this on the 'customize page'. I already upgraded, so this would not benefit me (I don't have the cash for this anyhow), but if I did, $10 would buy me a hamburger at McDonalds to celebrate. [;)]

I originally missed the customize option when I upgraded too. This doesn't mean that you still can't take advantage of it. If you choose an upgrade option a the same level you already chose it will appear in your checkout box and $0 and will give you the option to choose customized options. I did this a few times afterwards. I know that you say you don't have any funds but you may find it interesting to explore. I would assume that this option will be there as long as the upgrade discounts are still being offered but I'm not sure.

I also initially missed the customize option but was able to use it after my upgrade for a few days or weeks. But at the moment, it does not work for me any more. Maybe there is a 30-day limit after the upgrade during which you can still make use of the "customize discounts".

I missed the customize option too, I thought it was to do with payment plans. Disappointing it wasn't more clear. I tried what you suggested Brucecand it did not work because the shopping cart automatically removed the upgrade because I already own the product. Not sure how you are getting it to work.

looks like they changed it Andrew. I think that it may have originally
been an oversight. That is too bad. I agree that it should have been
presented more clear. Maybe you could call sales and ask.I think they may be sympathetic to your story since they have already given this option to many of us who were in your identical situation. One way you can still see the options and prices is to choose an upgrade above what you currently have. Then later you can just go back and remove it from your cart. I just did this to test it. Being overseas I wouldn't call, and they seem to be so busy at the moment. I emailed last week with an issue that should of been resolved the same day given the nature of it, but it took 3 days before they responded. Me emailing them on this one just doesn't seem that important. If was in a position to by AYB I might push the issue, but not and appreciate what I already have received from Logos this Christmas in terms of discount offers even if I can't take advantage of all the ones I would like.

I didn't realize that you were overseas. I also totally know what you mean about calling as they are so busy. I am currently on hold waiting for a response to a question and this seems to be the norm rather than the exception these days.
