I was wondering if it is possible to have more than one installation of Logos 4 or 5 on one computer for 2 different users?
Blessings,
Tim
Yes.
You'll need to use separate user accounts. Unfortunately all your note, favorites, visual filters, highlights, reading plans, etc. will sync to both users since you have only one Logos user account. You can get around this to a large extent by using naming conventions for your user created files.
How do I go about the second installation without it wanting to overwrite the first? Or are you saying that both accounts can run off one installation?
I do realize there needs to be two different accounts.
Blessings
Please explain how to do this.
Hi Tim,
I'd think you'd have to bring up the sign-in window. Below are the instructions from L5's help file.
Peace & Blessings,

How do I bring up the Sign In window again?
For complete isolation, you could run the second copy of Logos in a virtual machine.
Peace, Tim!
Just to avoid any confusion on our part, please share exactly what you desire!
2 Users of the same account on the one computer
or
two separate accounts on the one computer
*smile* Thank you!
Hi Mark! Peace to you!
Am I reading the first two lines of your post correctly? re: "separate user accounts" AND re: one Logos user account
Peace, Tim! Just to avoid any confusion on our part, please share exactly what you desire! 2 Users of the same account on the one computer or two separate accounts on the one computer *smile* Thank you!
Hi Milford, Peace be with you!
What I am after is two separate user accounts and two separate installations "if necessary" for all things to be separate (notes, highlites, pb's).
Thanks, Tim! That "great" *smile* clarification will make it possible, I would think, for technically-minded people to help you!
Hard to solve a problem until problem is clearly identified and isolated!
I'm sure we all know the one about the One who was up to his butt in alligators when he absolutely realised that actually his first priority had been to "drain the swamp," and that priority had somehow had been put "aside"!
*smile*
Edit: I guess now, Tim, you need some patience until a technical person that can help comes along! Hopefully soon! I'm a fairly new MVP and have to decide "one of these days" what I can help with and what I need to pass on to others. I'm an older guy, but can still learn! However, the learning curves seem to be growing longer and longer and longer .......
You will need to actually own two separate copies of Logos & resources.
You will need to create two user accounts on your computer… this is accomplished in different ways depending upon your operating system. Are you on Windows or Mac? Which version?
Tim,
I think you only need one installation, and two separate user accounts. If you log in each time, then you'd only get access to your books and files. When the other person logged in, they'd only get theirs.
EDIT: I just tried this on my laptop. I signed in as me ... had access to all my resources. I signed in as my son (who has a Logos account due to Proclaim but no resources) ... had no resources at all. I signed in again as me ... had access to all my resources. Seems simple enough.

Hi Alabama,
I got to admit the simple solution might have been right in front of me all the time. I never gave the second user account on the computer OS a thought.
I am running an iMac with OS 10.8.2
Peace to you! *smile* Yes! And if your son "logged in" and wanted to see and use "resources," well, then, I would think he would need a separate installation of his resources since he wouldn't be able to use your resources!
Now, again, because it's all one close family Logos Bob might possibly permit multi-use of you resources with your intimate loved ones .... *smile*
Hi Colin,
When you did this did you check to see if you had access to personal books, notes, highlights and so on with the second account? If not could you check that please and let me know the results? Thanks so much!
These windows users are confusing me… but on Mac you will certainly need a second Mac user account. You will also need a second account with Logos with whatever licenses and/or base package you want for that account… There is no good reason I can think of to create a second Mac user account if you are trying to use the same Logos license since everything (notes, highlights, hidden resources) syncs with Logos. Your license with Logos is for "one user" which can include a spouse and children living at home… but you will have to put up with sharing notes/highlights, etc.
Yes Milford, I agree that there would need to be a separate installation of his resources.
I'm sure Bob wouldn't be upset with the occasional use by my son of my resources (if I wasn't using them at the time--as it is hard for us to both read one book at the exact same time), but being a former software developer, I'd happily pay for two sets of licenses if my son wanted regular access to the books and software.

Alabama,
It needs to be a separate account (and second installation if necessary) and the second account will have its own licenses and actually already does. Nothing underhanded going on here. Nothing like that at all. Trying to help a friend who will be without a computer for a few months by allowing him to use mine for a few hours once and a while. Just need things to be totally separate.
You'll need to use separate user accounts.
I think everyone's figured this out, but you need two user accounts on your computer. I distinguished that in my next sentence when I referred to a single Logos user account, but what was clear to me was not to others.
Some married couples have done this using two different computers with a single Logos user account. They just have to put up with personally created files being used by both of them, or they develop and stick to a naming convention so they know whose file is whose.

Hi Mark,
I have to admit it got by me. I think I have this all straight in my head now. I hope!
Thank you very much for your help.

I didn't assume there was… just clarifying since I didn't know exactly what you were trying to do. Sometimes users who know about the "spouse" policy interpretation of "one user," want to create a separate installation to keep notes & highlights separate… but that doesn't work.

I meant nothing bad by what I said, please don't take it that way. I just wanted to make sure you knew I was not trying to "cheat" the system so to speak. Quite the opposite really.
Just trying to keep things on the up & up and help a friend in the process. He has his own resources and just needs a way to use them from time to time till he can solve his computer issue.
I think the second user account on my computer is the way to go. I just can't believe the thought of using a second computer account went right by me for some reason.
Thank you so much for you help Alabama, I truly do appreciate it.
Sure thing. And remind him that he can also access many of his resources (for reading purposes) via biblia.com.

I made a note of that and will pass it along. He did mention spending more time at the library using a computer there for some things. He could access Biblia from there also.
Thanks again!
Thank you everyone for you help!
Peace be with you
