lectionary guide

Are there any plans for a lectionary guide. I created a layout with my lectionary, commentary, bible, and info. window. But of course when I open it each day it opens to the wrong day. Is there are a better way of doing it, or any plans on creating a lectionary guide?

Aside from a lectionary guide, It would also be great to have a introduction/background guide

When you create a layout it opens to the precise locations you had when you saved it without taking into account any changes subsequently made. If you have a layout with a book you are reading and you fail to resave it after you have progressed in your reading, it will open to the location it was at when you saved it even though you have progressed further in the book since then. It is the same with a lectionary—it will not take into account the change in date since you saved the layout. If you wish to save a layout with a lectionary, you will find it necessary to enter the current date when you open it. That's simply the way a saved layout works.

You can call me lazy, but it will save me time. Currently, I have at lest one saved layout for each Sunday for the RCL (I have up to four - one for each reading).

I think I've figured out what the OP meant by "lectionary guide." I think he was referencing the "guides" section in the L5 headings. If I open the RCL, e.g., by itself I get the readings (all four) for the Sunday. I'm inclined to think that others would work similarly. I would suggest simply opening a blank layout and then the lectionary of your choice.

While that works, it seems more like a work around than a function of the software. I am not looking for a work around, that is what I am currently doing. It is also hard to do introductory studies on books of the bibles. Our commentaries do not open to the introduction section but the first verse, even if no verse is type in the bar. There has also been a work around for that by creating a collection of commentaries for a certain book, and then using the search engine to search for introduction material. Thankfully, logos is interested in how we use their software, and listens to our suggestions. Hopefully, we can get more guides. The new topic guide is a great feature, along with the sermon starter guide. I use those features, but there are other things I use the software for, and would like to see the software improved.

Personally, I use revised common lectionary for daily readings instead of the weekly readings

George. George it's just a suggestion - the major reason for a Lectionary Guide is that many of the notes apply to the relationships between the Scripture passages rather than to a single passage. There is also a need for a multi-layer layout that allows one to switch layouts between the passages quickly keeping one's position in each of the passages.

What do you want it to do?

I want to be able to open my software, click on lectionary guide have it open to the right day, and open a passage guide for each passage, or have a link to open a passage guide for each passage.

What is so difficult about opening the lectionary of your choice each time?

I did not know that it was such a major issue to request a feature. We have guides for all the other studies we do (topic, exegetical, sermon, passage) why would it be a problem to have a lectionary guide. Why are you personally taking issue with it?

As for reading a book—save your layout each time or simply open the book itself without a layout since it will open where you left off.

That is not the easiest way to do this type of study. I will show you what has worked pretty well for me

This has been the easiest way to stream line my study. I created my own lectionary guide, and just send each passage I want to further study to my lectionary guide. I know that not every user know how to do that, so to have a guide, that opens to the proper day, and allows them to follow the commentaries for that particular passage would be helpful.

Perhaps I don't understand what it is that is being requested. To me it seems eminently simple to open the lectionary of one's choice (which will then open to the appropriate date) and read the texts there in the preferred version—in my case this is Hebrew for OT, Greek for NT and Greek for the Apocrypha. My question is whether this does not fulfil the purpose of the OP without needing to resort to more complexity in the software. The rule is KISS (keep it simple, stupid [or not so stupid]).

I do more than just a lectionary reading. I do complete study that is based on the daily lectionary readings. Not sure if that fully explains what I am wanting to see accomplished. I am sure others that do this sort of study use more, or perhaps less in their daily lectionary studies. I am not sure what is the best way to design a lectionary passage guide. Maybe break the guide up into 3 or 4 sections that are linked to each reading. Maybe each section can open commentaries, exegetical, topics, and cross references for that particular reading. I am sure everyone does their daily studies different. Maybe some people use devotionals, which would be the same concept as the lectionaries

You're missing the point that what is under study - whether for planning services, preparing sermons or personal study in preparation of worship - is a group of passages not a single passage. KISS does not imply "fail to do job". The requested feature could also be tweaked to improve the study of parallel texts and intertextuality.
