Logs 4 installer failure?

Logos 4 installed fine for me on my Windows XP laptop from DVD, but the indexer repeatedly crashed. I was told that this is fixed in a later version, so I tried to run the network installer, but the copy manager does not start. If I enable logging I see:

2009-12-03T00:03:57Z 0x1460 Error IssueError Issuing exception 0x80070422: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. [f:\CCNet\Working\Logos4Setup\Code\common\DigitalLibrary\src\LDLS3\Libs/ComUtil/CreateInstance.h(30)]

Has anyone else seen this?

I haven't seen this message before. Were any Logos4 .exe's running? Check in Task Manager and kill them if necessary.

Were you using http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LDLS4Installer/Logos4Setup.exe to install?

Try deleting the C:\Documents and Settings\{user}\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Install folder.

OK! There should be an Logos4.msi file in C:\Documents and Settings\{user}\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Install\Installers. Provided it has today's date it should be the one you downloaded. Double-click to update (it looks like an install, but it won't!).

It would be helpful if you posted any Logos4indexer.log to see what potential corrupt resources you have. See http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging

The install directory is empty since I just deleted it and the installer failed to download the file. Is it possible to download it by hand?

You would have to go through Tech Support as the download site is protected.

The last few lines of the indexer log are:

We need the whole log (zipped up!). Attach as a file by hitting Options at the top of the forum Response form.

Try renaming \Logos4\Data\{random}\UpdateManager\Updates.db and

\Logos4\Data\{random}\DownloadManager\DownloadManager.db

Is there anything else in the \DownloadManager folder?

Same result. There was nothing else in the DowloadManager folder. From the log message, I have to believe that there is something about my configuration that is causing the failure. I've tried disabling McAfee and the like, but perhaps there is something else. . . The message is: "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." I'm not sure if there is some way that I can try starting this service by hand or something where I might get some more insight into what it is trying to do.
