Bug: Sync Error in Notes Manager

I woke Logos on the desktop 5.0b SR-3 and saw the Sync error icon. Then I updated to SR-4 and found it had logged the same sync error. I had previously been using the laptop on 5.1 beta 7 making changes to notes, but made no changes in stable (will now check laptop).

So what is the best way to correct the Sync error on Desktop stable?

Hi Dave,

While this sync error should be fixed in the beta, I believe it can be fixed if you delete notes that look like duplicates of one another.

(For technical explanation if you care) Individual note items are referenced by a combination of an ID and a Revision, whenever you make a change to a note the Revision is updated and the note ID is left alone. What can sometimes happen is on one machine you make a change to a note, and on another machine before you sync down you make a change to the same note. Both of these have their revision numbers bumped but to different numbers, and I think (but have to verify) the server sometimes doesn't know how to resolve the conflict, and so they allow duplicate note id's with different revisions. The server differentiates between the two by looking at the combination of note id and revision, whereas the client machine expected uniqueness on just the id.

In the beta this has been updated on the client to reflect what the server does. This same kind of problem, I believe existed for clippings and bibliographies as well. I will look into whether or not we should be getting into this case in the first place of the same note id's with different revisions. It might be on purpose that we would rather dupe a note, than risk losing note data.

Thanks, Seth. I deleted the "Passage List" notes circled above and the other notes were then corrected with sync i.e. added or deleted as necessary. All is well.
