Logos has worked fine on my mac computer for about a year now when it suddenly stopped opening fully. It will get to the time when the music starts, open for less than a second and then close. I have had this problem now for a week and been unable to use it.

how do i do that update? I thought it cost money?

Logging must be turned on or "enabled." To "post" logs means to upload them to the forum. We can't know what is going on with your installation without fresh logs. Logging is turned off by default. You can learn more by following the link in my signature line.
Logos software is always free. Resources and data sets needed to drive some features you must pay for. L4 is no longer being developed (although there will be an occasional "service release"). L5 is a continuation of L4. Just as you previously received free updates to L4, you should update to L5.
If you decide you want the new features which require new data sets, you can purchase a new base package or minimal cross grade. You do not need to make any purchases to keep the features you currently have in L4 when you update to L5.

One of the preference database files is corrupt. Within folder:

/Users/benjaminhand/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Documents/ba6yrctu.s30

are three folders:

LocalUserPreferences
UserPreferences
UserPreferences2

One idea is moving the three Preference folders to the trash, then launch Logos, which will automatically rebuild the folders and databases.
