Encountering the NT 2nd edition vs 3rd

Alright, I purchased Encountering the NT with a tweeter daily deal coupon last week. I'm here thinking it was the 3rd edition, but it turns out it's the 2nd edition which is nowhere to be found in the Logos website. Did the 2nd edition get replaced by the 3rd, but before it got replaced it went on sale for 50% off on tweeter? From what I can see, I still see the 2nd edition better than the third (on the third some pictures got removed). But don't we get the third edition for free since we owned the 2nd? Just checking.

I don't think so as since its a new book by the publisher it is viewed as a new resource.

Encountering the NT is an excellent book! I've used it as a textbook in a NT college gen ed class. You won't regret having an older edition.

Unfortunately, we pay for new editions, like I did recently for the 2nd edition of Blomberg's Jesus and the Gospels. There, the book underwent significant revision. Paragraphs were revised for greater clarity. Some text was dropped and other text was added--about 15% total.

But one small benefit of Logos is we do get edition updates that correct spelling errors and formatting.

From what the authors say in the preface to the 3rd edition, it seems like the 3rd edition would be nice, but not necessary:

"We have done our best to correct vague wording, update the bibliography, rewrite outdated sections, and add material where the previous edition was culpably brief. It did not seem wise to undertake a thoroughgoing revamping—to produce a different work, as it were. Too many professors begged that we not tamper too much with a book that seems generally effective in classroom use. Students largely like it and seem well served by it"

Well, I didn't read that part, the only thing I read was "Encountering the NT" and I knew I wanted to repurchase it, but what caught my attention is that when I looked under new products the 3rd edition was there and the 2nd edition had disappeared; hence my original post. It's ok though, from some sample pages, I like my 2nd edition just fine. IMO I believe is better than the third and it has some pictures that the 3rd no longer includes.
