There are some registry keys you can change too rosie - my D drive is where my \program files\ is located.

Desktop - everything can be re-located without a sym link to wherever you want.

With Windows 7/8 Libraries you don't need Symbolic links. Just highlight the folder, right-click and select "include in library". Its that easy.

If it's just documents, that's fine, but if you've stored other files in your documents folder (like PST files, for example), then the applications that created those files get confused. That's why symbolic links can be useful.

    As a follow-up...

I went with the pro version. It is plugged into my motherboard; I could not afford an extra card. I did a clean install and Logos and all related files are on the SSD.

I have not done benchmarks or things like that, so these are just informal thoughts:

    - The computer overall is faster, but not amazingly so.

    - Office programs open instantly - that is a big difference. But they only took about 3 seconds before.

    - My boot time for Windows is about 20 seconds. It used to be 35-45 seconds.

    - Boot time for Logos the first time I open it after turning on the computer is about 15 seconds. Subsequent loads are about 8 seconds, maybe a bit less.

    - Books open faster and Logos in general is faster but again, not amazingly so. Changing layouts seems to be the biggest noticeable difference for me. The information panel is another thing that is quite a bit faster.

Overall, it is nice to have a snappier machine, but I don't know if it was really worth it. Maybe when I can afford a newer computer with a faster processor and a 6GB transfer rate things will be more noticeable.

Thanks again for all the help and input, everyone!

I imagine I would see a bit of a bump moving up from 6gb of RAM, too.

But then again, improvements from here on would be pretty small.

EDIT: Just looked at my motherboard and the most it can take is 16gb.

Presuming you can use DDR3 here, but its been relatively cheap lately. Check out NewEgg.
