Logos 5.1 Crashing

You guys are killing me with these updates. I thought that when you updated a piece of software, you made it better? Why is it that every time you guys release an update, we go through this?

Understand your frustration. I guess I haven't had the issues you have had.
The log file reveals an error I haven't encountered. It is different from the one Bradley Grainger referred to in the other thread you posted to. Since you are on a Mac it might be one of the Mac guys will know how to help.

Hi Erik,
Sorry you're having this problem.
This crash is caused by a reference range synced from your Android phone. (See also this post by a Windows user experiencing the same problem: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/72267.aspx.)
Your app is probably crashing as soon as the Bible Search panel (which is in your startup layout) is opened. To stop this, please hold down the CMD key as you start the application. When the Sign In dialog appears, check the "Use blank layout" checkbox then click Sign In. You will now be able to use Logos 5.1 except for Bible Search.
We will be fixing this in 5.1 SR-1. The workaround for now is to delete the custom reference ranges you have created on the Android phone and let them sync back to your Mac.

I will try your solution.
Only one problem. I don't have an Android phone. I haven't had once since last October when I went to the iPhone 5. And when I DID have an Android phone, the app did not allow custom reference ranges, so I never set any.
And not having Bible Search kind of defeats the entire purpose of having Logos BIBLE Software, don't you think?0 -

Sorry for the incorrect assumption. It may also be possible to cause this crash from editing custom ranges on the iPhone.
If you use the Logos app on your phone, you can go to the Search tab, then tap Bible, then tap the rightmost button under the "Find" box (it may or may not be labelled "All Passages"). In that screen, you can edit and delete custom ranges, which should sync back to your Mac and fix the problem.

We will be fixing this in the next update.

Sorry, Bradley but after years of being told things are going to be fixed in the next update, it starts to get a little old. Do you have any idea how frustrating it is for a pastor to have his Bible software unresponsive on Friday afternoon and then be told I can't use the Bible Search on the software?
I am a diehard Logos user, and I have been for years; but you guys have got to stop pushing out updates that are not ready for public use.
I put Logos DLS and Logos Bible Software 3 through the wringer for years and I never had a problem with them. I was one of the first to upgrade to Logos 4 on my Mac, only to discover that it was an ALPHA; and I spent the next 18 months just trying to keep up with the daily updates because someone should have stopped the decision makers and said, "It is a TERRIBLE idea to release an alpha to our user base."
And now we have 5; and it seems like every time it starts working properly, there's another bug. I think I speak for everyone I know who uses Logos when I say this: hold your updates until you have thoroughly tested them.
At the very least, give us a rollback option so that when something like this happens, we can restore to the previous stable iteration.

Appreciate frustration, wonder about using Search alternative until Logos 5.1 SR-1 is released ?
Personally have a collection of Bibles for use with Bible Search, especially Grid.

Wiki => http://wiki.logos.com/Mac_Release_Notes_and_History shows "Gold" usually has a SR-1 release within a week. One idea is waiting for SR-1 release before updating application.
Apple's Time Machine has application bundle and Logos4 folder roll back capability. Alternative is closing Logos before updating application, then manually duplicate Logos4 folder and application bundle; wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_Multiple_Macs

If Logos would simply post the previous version, it would solve a lot of issues for people who know what they're doing. I shouldn't need to use up 10+GB of Time Machine space to back up a program that is supposed to be stable and cloud-based.

I too would consider myself a diehard user and after installing today's update Logos crashes on startup every single time. In essence, my software is currently useless.I am on deadline for two research papers, two sermons and a Bible class prep and my entire electronic library is DOA.

Michael,
Do you have Logos on a mobile device (iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone)?
If so, have you added any custom search ranges? For some reason, these custom search ranges are triggering a bug in Logos 5.1.
I went into the mobile app and deleted all these ranges and then allowed Logos to sync back to the servers from the device (just keep it open for a couple of minutes and it will do it automatically).
Then completely shut down Logos 5 on your Windows/Mac (if you can even get it started. I couldn't.) and restart it. You might need to reboot your computer.
If it still doesn't start, you can wipe out the custom searches in the Logos systems folder. There are instructions on here somewhere. I use a Mac, and I went to:
/Users/[INSERT YOUR USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/[Unique ID#]/
Once in there, I deleted the index files. You can delete just about everything except ResourceManager (that's where all your resources are, and if you delete it, you have to download them all again.) Logos will rebuild the folder.0 -

Not that I am aware of - I do have the mobile app on both my iPhone 4s and my iPad mini

I do not have a Library folder under my username in Users. I assume it is hidden - using Mountain Lion 10.8.4

It is hidden.
Go to Finder and press Shift+Cmd+G
OR Go up to your toolbar at the top of your screen and click Go>Go To Folder...
https://copy.com/GSHe64F0QorV9dOQ
then enter the folder address as I did, removing the square bracketed information and substituting your own.
Start with
/Users/[INSERT YOUR USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Logos4
You will see the Data folder and inside it is your unique data folder.

Ok - found the files - deleted LibraryIndex - still crashes at startup.
Do I need to delete everything in the Data folder except Resource Manager?
Anyone else know how to get my over $5000 worth of software to work?

Sorry that you are having troubles... A couple of observations however:
- You have inserted yourself into someone else's conversation. It would have been much better for everyone if you had created a new thread, explained the problem clearly, and posted logs.
- You are in the process of taking someone else's medicine. Just because you have the same symptom as someone else (a crash), doesn't mean you have the same problem!
Please create a new thread and post logs. If you need help with that, see the links in my signature line.

Previous 5.0b SR-4 application is available for download => https://s3.amazonaws.com/downloads.logos.com/LBS5/Installer/5.0.2.0755/LogosMac.dmg along with ten older stable releases.
Caveat: after Logos 5.1 has been launched, your local database files are upgraded so replacing Logos 5 application with an older version and launching will quickly be followed by a crash.
Wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Mac_Troubleshooting#Uninstalling_Logos_4_Mac that has similar steps for completely uninstalling Logos 4. Logos 5 for OS X still uses Logos4 folders.
