Reading Plan Markers.

Hi.

I am trying to use reading plans but I cannot see the 'start / end' markers in the text ... at least not always.

If I open a resource from the home page, then I am taken to page 100 (or whatever) and the markers are there as expected.

If the resource is already open, and I do not use the home page to 'access' it then I can see no markers!!!

Now the answer should therefore be ... always access them from the home page ... except that there are a couple of issues with where the link actually takes you ... which is where my problems lie ...

If, for example, today's reading is pages 100-120, and I was already on page 115, the link will take me to page 100 and I have to find where I was. This is irritating but OK ... I would have expected that if the last viewed page of the resource is within the reading range then it should go there rather than blindly to the start of the day's reading.
More seriously, If I have read the next few days already, and they are marked as read on my desktop app, the home page still seems to take me to today's reading, regardless of the fact that it has been marked as read ... I now have 30+ pages to wade through to see where I was. I would have expected the homepage to take me to the first section in the reading list that has not been marked as read, (and , as per 1, part way along that section if that is what was last viewed).

I am using the latest iPad app and the latest L5Mac beta (although I do not believe this to be a beta issue, hence I am posting in this forum).

Am I missing something obvious ... or quite possible mis-reading what is happening? How do I always ensure that the markers are visible?

It works differently on mobile... Using a reading plan is kind of like a special mode that has to be turned on. When you arent using the app, and when iOS releases the app from memory, its like the reading mode is turned back off.

If, for example, today's reading is pages 100-120, and I was already on page 115, the link will take me to page 100 and I have to find where I was. This is irritating but OK ... I would have expected that if the last viewed page of the resource is within the reading range then it should go there rather than blindly to the start of the day's reading.

I agree in cases like yours, it can be annoying. It is working "as expected," however. When you press on the reading plan, it takes you to the beginning of the reading, which is what it is supposed to do.

I agree. The temporary workaround is to open the actual reading plan on your mobile device (rather than accessing it from the homepage).

How do I always ensure that the markers are visible?

You can't. I think the rationale is related to the "all or nothing" with notes & highlights. On the desktop, you can turn individual notes & highlights on resource by resource. On mobile, its either all on or all off for all resources. I think this is a related issue. I would expect that at some point, this will change, but it will be with advances in iOS / hardware, etc.

I hope that they will get this all 'fixed' (IMHO !), it seems to be a set rather unnecessary restrictions.

I never knew that I could load the plan itself. That was a little Gem. It took me a while to find the amongst my many note files. I will rename the plans so that they are easier to find in the documents list.

Now if only I could work out how to determine which of the two display panels would be replaced when a plan is opened ... or rather ... a way of simple way to cause the last opened resource to open in the other panel, and restoring the other panels contents (not quite the same as swapping the two panels) ...

No need to rename them… If you type "read", your list will filter for reading plans (plus documents with "read")

When you have the sidebar menu open, the "active" panel will be brighter than the other (which will be dimmed). You can actually change the "active" one by tapping on the panel when the side bar menu is open.

Unless I rename them, I cannot tell which are the current plans from the historical (completed) ones. I am simply renaming them by replacing the word 'Read' with 'Done'.

When you have the sidebar menu open, the "active" panel will be brighter than the other (which will be dimmed). You can actually change the "active" one by tapping on the panel when the side bar menu is open.
