Sweet Singers of Wales by H. Elvert Lewis

Justly famous for its choirs, Wales has long been associated with great hymn-singing. It has given numerous hymn-tunes to the Church that are enjoyed throughout the world, as well as a large number of hymns. Many of the hymns originating in Wales, however, were written in Welsh and are found only in Welsh hymnals. Recognising this, H. Elvet Lewis penned this little volume last century to introduce English-speakers to the riches of Welsh hymnody. Not only does he give translations of many of the best-loved hymns, but he succeeds in the brief biographical sketches in portraying the piety which gave rise to such compositions.

Hi Mark. Did you ever make the Life of Howell Harris into a PB? If so, are you able to share it?

I'm reading the Journals of George Whitefield at the moment, and there are numerous references to HH in them. I'd love to find out more about him - especially as a fellow South Walian! [:)]

Life of Howell Harris is a big work, at around 150,000 words, so I'm a long way from finishing, I'm afraid. I've done the first 120 pages, using this scan. Here's what I've done so far - it does include the chapter on Whitefield: 7484.Life of Howell Harris (chs 1-9).docx

I misread the title the first time through, and thought you might get a kick out of it.

I had read the title as: Sweet Swingers of Whales. It made me laugh, and then curious... Now I think its clear I should have slept a little longer .
