Book Cache Question

Does book cache apply to existing payment plans? For example, if I wanted to do away with the $5 monthly processing fee and just deposit whatever monthly payments on my current...say...12 month plan. It'd still be 12 months to pay broken down in 12 payments, but paying with book cache instead in order to do away with the $5 processing fee. Am I making sense?

Also, on pre-pubs, it sounds like you can put them on cache payment plan - does that mean you don't pay for the whole thing when it ships? I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I'm a bit confused as to how it works.

Any input will be greatly appreciated!

My understanding is that it is really a savings or deposit account, as opposed to a credit account. In other words the idea is that you have already built up a big enough balance to pay for a prepub at the time it ships, rather than put it on a payment plan. Which is why there isn't a $5 processing fee.

Of course this doesn't explain why Logos isn't paying you interest on the money you are depositing with them.........

Why should they pay interest for deposits, when they don't charge interest for payment plans?
The current interest rates are so low as to be irrelevant to the customer.
The current interest rates are so low that they won't even cover Logos' administrative costs for running this.
Keeping track of interest would increase those administrative costs even further.

IOW, 'book caches' and payment plans are only profitable for Logos if people buy things they otherwise wouldn't. In themselves they're costs.

Well it doesn't actually say on the Book Cache page, but I can't imagine for one second that they wouldn't return your deposit, it is after all your money.

The Book Cache concept would seem to work for those have a book budget that is a lot bigger than their interest in pre-pubs.

There are others of us for whom it is less obviously useful unless it were to have an additional automatic feature which would delay processing of orders until the following month's deposit if there were a flurry of publications one month (and hopefully fewer the next). The concept could then be applied more broadly to iron out the peaks and troughs of publication dates which currently can play havoc with a book budget.

As listed in the FAQs, Logos Credit bought through the Book Cache program never depreciates or expires, nor is it refundable.

Yes, that makes sense. No, Book Cache does not work like that. It's a budgeting tool available for use on future purchases, and does not apply to any existing payment plans.

Thank you Ray for your answers! They sure do clarify a lot of doubts I had. Given some of my circumstances, I think that whenever I can, I'll just put money aside to use as book budget or emergency fund or buy other stuff. Putting the money on Book Cache would pretty much put some in a bind if a situation arose where they needed the cash they put aside.

With the above mentioned, I think my idea would work better: Welcome to the new Logos Bible Software Credit Card! (subject to credit approval)...[:P]

I think it is an excellent idea and will serve enough people dealing with pre-pubs shipping at the most inconvenient moments and dealing with administrative fees or dealing with tight budgets. But it never means less money. Just the same money and probably more.

Nothing wrong with that. We are doing it ourselves, it is our own choice to buy or not to buy what we are offered.

I know that it is absolutely not meant to mislead, but the wording is too much marketing on the edge of being not true...

It is meant for convenience, so the wording should reflect this purpose rather than spending less money.

One has to be responsible for what one commits and that means having a clear goal for its use. Otherwise, set up a special savings account (with a bank) and transfer money regularly. At least it's refundable and you get interest.

Being retired I'm geared to monthly payments wherever possible as I don't like a big outlays at one time of the year (especially Christmas). So my utilities are paid from regular monthly contributions as opposed to paying a bill every 3 months or 2 months. Ditto for vehicle & house insurance although there is a small penalty for not paying annually (an amount which is offset by earning more interest over the year).
